I rememebr when they used to reverse grip.  I tried it a few times.  Never liked it and saw no advantage to it.  It twisted my wrist more than anything.  I did 315 for a few but was just unconformatble.  Never even tried 405 cause I thought i'd hurt myself.  They were strong.  David really impressed me with his size.  He weighed about 25 lbs more than Peter and wore the same size pants waist size. 32"  Not that I am close to being a fag or anything but David has a small as for being so big and thick.  We got along really good but I think me and Peter connected better.

super strong guy but he was not even close with that lift, 500 probably would have gone.

makes me wonder if he had ever tried it before, no chance was that going anywhere without his brother there to help him. Crazy strong to even attempt it, i hear they used to curl 150lb dumbbells. Can u confirm this onlyme?

I have seen pics of the 150 DB curls, there looked to be considerable cheating going on but I am sure Onlyme can speak on that as he was there

Well as with some lifts the technique has a little to be desired.  They did spot each other all the time.  SO some reps could be counted as assisted.  They were strong as hell though.  Definitely the strongest I have lifted with.  Especially there shoulder strength.  I routinely did 130 db curls but only could do Hammers that way.  I trained wiht them later on in their fame in the late 80's early 90's.  I think they were stringer back n the early and mid  80's.  I met them in 1983.  My good friend Bob Sear regulary trained with them.

if you can find it the book Beef it! by Robert Kennedy of Musclemag has a bunch of good Barbarian photos in it, pics of 315lb. seated press behind necks, 150 lb. db curls, 500+ sqauts, there's one crazy picture in there of one of them doing overhead triceps extensions with the whole stack plus one of the brothers standing on the stack, that must have thrilled the gym owner, hahahaha. there's a photo floating around here that somebody posted of one of them pressing 365 behind the neck seated with the old style fat 45lb. plates, awesome photo.

Well we did shoulders more than anything.  315 seated BNP we did the most of.  At a place called "The Gym" back in 1991 or 92 or so we did go up to 405.  They always spotted each other no matter what.  Even if it was just a finger help.  I didn''t lie a spot for anything.  And I always start my BNP from bottom.  I did 2 no help at all with a spot for a third.  They would do 4 or 5 reps but helped a little on each rep.  We ususally stayed at 315 though.  Another thing we did was lateral raises startig at 60 or 70 and going down in weight 5 lbs at a time and raise the reps.  People thought we were fooling around when we got down to the 5 lb db's and doing them for 15 reps or so and barely being able to lift them.  I know it looked funny.  I never did legs with them and chest only a few times.  We did curls a couple times.  In Maui we did BB curls on the preacher bench.  I didn't do heavy db curls with them.  They were strong as hell.  And yes that B&W pic of them doing 365 BNP is good.  Pete G is watching them

The Barbarian brothers attempted a 500# reverse grip BP on the old Merv Griffin show.....it would have been a world record, but the brother failed.........

Great pics Overload.  That first pic has Mike Sapp watching.  He was part owner of the best gym on Oahu called The Gym.  David and Peter were strong dudes no doubt.  Very intense in the gym.

looks like they could have been pretty good plers if they competed.  they werent that big considering the monster lifts they did.  i'm always amuzed about how lyle alazado beat them both up.  even during his strongest cycle, he was never stronger than either one of dave or paul, let alone to kick the shit out of both of them.

You must have missed the postwhere i stated Lyle Alzado deadlifted 765 at Gold's Gym Venice. Lyle was strong as fuck. Lyle might not have been the bench pressers that the BB were-but he had them on deadlifts for sure.

And he was a nut-I dont think anyone at Venice could have kicked his ass.

haha some of those shirts they wear were mine.  The would come over and use some of my clothes if they needed them.  They would wear the same exact clothes for days.  And they sweat allot so you can imagine the smell.  The bandanas always got a look.  They liked to wear different colored shoes too.
