I also find this “IFBB Mr Universe” title to be somewhat confusing because I thought that the IFBB officially ceased using that title in 1975 or 1976 and officially changed it to the “World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships”.

I believe that the change was enforced by a court decision and either the AAU or NABBA or both were the plaint8ffs.

And to add fuel to the campfire, I was under the impression that the term “Mr.” was to be no longer used in any IFBB contest.

But it could be possible that none of the above applied to any IFBB contest held outside of US jurisdiction.

Maybe one of you BB historians can clarify this.

In the meantime …. Name the last “IFBB Mr Universe” title holder.

Yes I know that but in modern popular culture the titles ''Mr Universe'' and ''Mr World'' are well known and have some mystique to them and the general public know of the names even if they know nothing of bodybuilding, all thanks to Arnold as everyone knows of him and the only knowledge they have of Bodybuilding is from what they know of Arnold (Mr Universe), i once competed in a Mr Universe contest and when i told family and friends (who knew nothing of BB) they responded with comments like ''thats the title Arnold won'' and older relative even mentioned Steve Reeves, i might be old fashioned but in certain aspects Bodybuilding needs to go back to its roots

SCHMOE, I have no disagreement with what you said, but my question remains ... "Wasn't there some legal issue that prohibited the IFBB's use of the Mr Universe title?"

Or even if there were no "legal issues" .... didn't the IFBB decide to refrain from using that title in future events?
