Stunt, this is all I could find on Oteros death:

ERIC OTERO, 37

FLEX is saddened to report the passing of IFBB pro bodybuilder ERIC OTERO. The 2001 NPC National middleweight champ, who last competed at the 2005 Europa Super Show, died May 15 in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 37. Otero's autopsy results hadn't yet been completed as of our press time, but, according to his family, the medical examiner indicated that it appears Otero's death was the result of an infection that began in a tooth and entered his bloodstream.

Otero is survived by his wife, AMANDA, who was two-and-a-half months pregnant at the time of his death; his mother, MELVINA OTERO; his brother, DAVID BRAZAS, and David's wife, DEBORAH; and his sister, MARCELLA CHESHIER, among other family members. Otero, who served in the U.S. Army from 1989 to 1993, was buried with full military honors on Thursday, May 18, in San Antonio.

Thanks, NJ!

You don't happen to know the SUPERMAN character I mentioned earlier? He was well known and from your area someplace. And a good bodybuilder. And he actually did heroic stuff like climbing tall trees to rescue cats, ect.

A real character most everyone knew back then. He'd be about 50 now.

Thanks again, NJ.

BTW... He did those cat rescues and other super stuff in his Superman suit.

I know some old friends of his (Ernie S.is one if he remembers that far back). I'll see if I can contact E. who may recall Superman's real identity.

So many characters in this here game!

Anyone recall Gypsy Boots? I think he was mentioned a few times earlier. He could throw a football a half a mile ..... (that's a real exaggeration , WES!)

I believe he invented the protein tablet. They were packaged like Life Savers and tasted like shit ....  or maybe more better - like alfalfa.

That's not going to happen Hazbin, when you hear  kids  nowadays saying , Branch Warren looks awesome , 80's bodybuilders look like swimmers, Brian Buchanan waist was too small, Chris Cormier physique was boring ..........etc  , you know bodybuilding is fucked.

It takes time to really appreciate quality.
I was thinking along the same line as stated above when I was younger. Even if you're fooled by shit in the beginning, given that one follows body culture as a whole(bb, dancing, olympic lifting, circus) over a longer period of time, timeless physiques begin to shine.

Stories and pics in this thread are outstanding.

I trained with him several times. If I remember- he liked moderate weight, continuous tension stuff. Never locked any reps out. Good control. Above average volume. Nothing remarkable.  Darin was strong- Incline press 315 sets of 6-8.  High bar close stance squats 405 x 10-12 no locking out.

Again; he was in the top-5 of all the Gold's Venice cats I ever saw as far as "responding"  Only Mike Christian comes to mind as responding faster to less. Christian's transformations were CRAZY. Darin's were close.
Is it true Christian would take up to 6 months off, and within weeks look inhuman?

When we would watch the transformation, all I could do was shake my head in disbelief. Add to that- his form as TERRIBLE and he wouldn't even appear to be paying any attention to what he was doing. Remarkable. Unmatched.

Nice shot of the old Gold's on Pacific.....when I would go out to train at Gold's Venice.....I would stay at the Marina Pacific Hotel.....and would walk to the gym from the Hotel and when I walked by the old Gold's building...I would get chills up my spine just thinking about all the history and all the greats who trained there.

There's a print someplace on line identifying each and every person in that photo.

How many people in that photo have passed away since it was taken?

I can see Mike and Ray and Ron Teufel

ANd there was another photo shot with Pete more up towards the front.

Those were the "Bestest of the Best Days of Bodybuilding".
