That's Robby, JOE WEIDER, and Lou Ferrigno- not Mike.  I met Mike in 1994.

At Gold's they have installed a large video screen in the first room. Currently, they are only playing 2 videos on it- Pumping Iron and the 2011 Mr. Olympia.

It is startling the contrast of the '70s physiques to the present physiques. Things have definitely taken a dramatic turn for the worse. Guts everywhere, even on supposedly retro guys like Dexter. It is a total shame. The general public at the gym notices this too- "why does he have a belly?", etc.

The worst in terms of guts at the '11 Olympia was Dennis James- he actually looks pregnant at the show. The "powers that be" in bodybuilding can't do anything about this?

i've stated this before on here. if they stop rewarding physiques with big bellies, the guys will stop using the drugs that cause the distention. no need for drug testing, just start placing guys lower for having big guts.

I second that statement.  Add a mandatory pose where the competitors have to do a vacuum and pull in their abs like Haney or Zane are doing in these shots.  If they can't do this mandatory pose, they would be quickly marked down and be out of the money.

I fully agree with you and hazbin, but that would eliminate 95%of the guys now

Its like in formula 1, it would be great to go back to slicks, no gadgets and actual driving. But people would call that regressing

bbing has regressed where magazines have no bearing, need, due to internet and lack of interest due to way bbing has turned off the public view of it as a sport/hobby.at one time ben weider wanted the ioc to recognize it for olympic event ,never came to fruition.they do have the world games and international fed's ,but ioc would have been there dream.

That would eliminate the guys who don't adapt.  If they end up with 1 or 2 years of shows with only a few competitors, that is the price to pay to right the system.  Though you'd lose the hardcore fans who want big, bloated bodybuilders who have way too much muscle for their frame (250-60 lbs on a person 5'8" tall is ridiculous), you would actually gain more fans who see aesthetic, obtainable physiques that are the ideal, rather than freaky, mass-monsters who are a joke.

This is a great point and one that is never mentioned about what is wrong with the sport today. The magazines suck and, because of the internet, are basically irrelevant today. When I was a kid, the magazines were what really got me interested in the stars of bodybuilding and in the upcoming contests. The pictures, the articles about the different personalities, the training articles, etc. Today, the magazines are filled with blown up freaks training with chains and their veins exploding from their bodies. It's a total freak show. They try to hype up the Olympia each year but it gets worse year after year. There are no personalities, no class, no real rivalries. It's all drugs, drugs, drugs and it's a freak show.
