4 - time Washington State ADFPA/USAPL 242 lb class powerlifting champion. Won state title in the 80's, 90's, 2000....3 decades. LIFETIME natural. Totalled International Elite - Highest Drug-Free ranking. Tested 15 times........0 - positives
Competition bests: Squat - 804.5 Bench - 501 Deadlift - 727
Gym bests: Squat - 750x3 600x10 585x12 500x20 405x30 Bench - 475x3 405x8 315x20 Deadlift - 600x7 500x10 405x15
These are my bests. They are accurate and not exaggerated. The gym lifts are slightly higher as I trained at around 250-255 lbs, dropping to 242 to compete. Squats were done "ass to the floor". These are not "sets", they were done at different times in different years.
James, Much resect! I just started getting into PLing and your numbers are my goals! I weigh 252 and wanting to PL in the 242 lb class. How in the world do you drop 10 to 15 pounds before the meet and still have strength? Very impressive!

Thank you............and it's TIM, James is posted above my post.
I would start dropping my calories and carbs about 7-10 days out to slowly drop weight. I could usually cut 6-8 pounds in 10 days. Weight can really vary, depending upon when you weigh yourself..........mornin g or evening. The last week prior to a meet, I do not train, so cutting calories and carbs won't kill you, or your training. If I know I am going to be close, I will actually spit.....while chewing grape gum....a lot of it. I have filled a gallon jug 1/2 way over a long day. If I need to get drastic, I can take 2 servings of glutamine............and like clock work, within 1 hour, I can visit the "bathroom" and "drop" 5 pounds of "liquid-gel"......very fast. I don't advise this as you will get dehydrated very fast. It has taken 20 years to figure out what works for me. Several times I have weighed in at 242.5, exactly the limit. I have weighed 242 at a night weigh in, loaded up on cell tech by drinking 2 servings every 4 hours......all night (setting the alarm), then weighed 252 the next day. I set PR'S that day and felt incredible. To set state records/National records you have to weigh in the morning of the meet....which makes it much, much harder. Sometimes we do drastic.....almost stupid things to make weight.....but I'm healthy as ever at age 41..............and have remained drug free.

Sorry about the name thing! Tim, you rock man! You have set the bar for me! I'm 30 pushing the 255 lb mark at 5'10" with a 605 lb squat, 405 lb bench, and 560 lb dead all being raw. I got single ply equipment but haven't got a chance to break them in yet. I have never tried the drug thing and get accused of it everyday, I take it as a compliment! So really, the weight drop is all water? Have you had any injuries over the years? What are some good powerlifting meets and organizations to be apart of?

Give its a shot as well.
Squats - horrible - 335X5 no 1 rep max as of yet. Gains have been steady, not a big squat guy until recently. I would like to hit 405lbs Deadlift - 485 without wraps x 3 - 535x1 with wraps - Was not attempting 1 rep max but this is the highest i've hit. I would like to hit 600lbs Bench - 345X1 - training to hit 405 by July I hope. Have reached it in 2002 at BW of 235.
I'm currently 220. at 5'10. I hope with an increase of BW that the lift weight will go up. Not concerned with BW to lift weight ratio as long as i can stay lean between 10-12% BF.

USAPL all the way..............single ply gear and consistant drug testing.
If you haven't worn equipment before, don't "freak out" when you first put it on. It will take some time to get used to it. Once you do..........the skies the limit! Train hard.....train smart!

I broke in my equipment this past thursday and friday. Thursday I used my bench shirt and it was freakin awesome. 405 never felt so easy. Now friday with the inzer "Z" suit doing squats is whole another story. One word and it is PAIN but good pain. I didn't get to do the weight I wanted to casue it was so different for the norm. I couldn't breath at all but that may been from the belt being to tight. I don't know but I need to try the suit again after my legs grow some skin back on them.

BE PATIENT.
A belt can be too tight. Put it on comfortably tight. If you are using a normal stance squatting, take it out an inch with both feet and it may help you get down with the gear on without doing a "good morning" and killing your back. If you don't black out.......it's a good suit...lol.

i can now do my 1rep max for 3 reps on all three lifts after i stopped training specifically for powerlifting.my endurance is much better now to.my goals changed whenever i got into my line of work,my goal now is just to be a little stronger everytime i go to the gym without sacrificing endurance.i think if i entered a event now i would crush my all time total. my schedule now is circuit training(Milo's style)for 1 month, and then i powerlift for 3 months and then repeat.i also stopped using steroids 2 years ago,and with the way i train and eat i haven't lost barely any size. bench
