Romney/Christie

I'm starting to think this would be a strong ticket.  They're missing military experience, but other than that they bring a solid background to the table.

At this point, Romney may be the safest (viable) choice.  Not nearly as polarizing as Newt.  Excellent debater.  Has the flip-flop baggage, but other than that is pretty clean.

Christi would absolutely destroy Biden.

it doesn't matter at this point.  You'll vote against obama no matter who is on the ticket.

"but other than that is pretty clean?"  Really?  You have pointed out the "other than that" in regards to Newt lol...  Of course you changed course fast after he became the front runner.

I've said that many times, but that has nothing to do with whether Romney/Christie is a good ticket to beat Obama.

Yes, really.   :)

I've pointed out Newt's "other than that" several times.  It's still a problem.  And the only "changed course" is my prediction that he is unelectable.  I may have been wrong about that.  We'll find out pretty soon.

I have the same opinion about whether he forfeited his right to be president over his hypocrisy during the Clinton impeachment.

Speaking of a dollar short, are you still sending money to Ron Paul?  And have you cracked that 911 conspiracy yet??

I don't care if my president is banging 5 whores a night, as long as he is fixing the economy.

newt is a dirtbag, and I think he'll have trouble winning moderate voters with his abrasive personality, but in terms of fixing things economic, I think he will do a fine job.  I just think RPaul would do a BETTER job.

Newt is certainly a shady dirtbag.  He 'admitted' making a very small amount from Freddie, then it turned out to be WAY more.  He was a lobbyist, he is a dirtbag, but that doesn't bother me.

I have the moral security to say "yes, this guy is a total douche, a fat lying pig of a cheater, but I'm thinking he will repair the US economy".

Newt is a liar and sleezebag.  I would vote for him over obama obviously, but lets be real, Newt has no core convictions whatsoever same as romney.

Even with the problems I have with Newt, there is no way I can tap Obama's name on the screen next year.  There is just too much at stake.

But to the thread topic, I just don't think Romney has the same baggage.  He'll do a better job of attracting independents and crossover Democrats.

Agree.  If Newt does get the nomination, he'll need to parade his wife around and play the grandfather card often.

lol @ "moral security"  lol . . . .

It's true.  I can admit I will buy a cheeseburger from a guy who beats cattle with hammers all day... some people can't.

I can admit I would vote for a candidate who unloads semen inside strange nookie.  I wouldn't have to justify it with "but but he's matured since then" or other nonsense.  If you're in your 40s and 50s and you're cheating, hey, you're a dirtbag.

I can say "Yes, I'mma vote for this dirtbag".   Many people don't have that kind of moral security.  They would prefer to lie to themselves and say "he's not REALLy a dirtbag, or not a dirtbag ANYMORE..."

I like 33 because he's honest.  He knows newt is a greasy fat pig of a cheater, but he's okay with that.  Me too!

IMO, it all goes back to the moral insecurity thing here.  They have to believe the person they're voting for is morally clean.

Newt cheated like crazy in his 40s and 50s.   So what?  That's between he and his wife.  Does he have a moral leg to stand upon?  Oh, shit no.

They can't hold their bible and their rosary, while tapping "3x wife cheater" over "faithful hubby obama" on the voting machine.

So they delude themselves.  "he's not like that anymore...."   LMAO.  Moral security.  Word.

hey man, I grew up with 10 years of catholic school.  I know that whole moral conflict.  I read the bible every day in school and yeah, there are certainly moral conflicts that come with choosing candidates, supporting wars - particularly in light of our new info age.

It's an unhappy feeling, but it can be very liberating BB.  Just say "these things are out of my control - I don't have to consider factors such as faithfulness, integrity, or honesty in my candidate.  Competence and ability to fix economy are how I vote - period".

Many religious people cannot do this.  They have to cling onto lies like WMD because they can't find "bombing someone who hasn't attacked us is okay" in the bible.  And they have to say "Newt is not an adulterer (anymore).

You should probably talk to "religious" people a little more.  If you did, perhaps your views on morality and "religious people" wouldn't be so dang ridiculous.

I don't think Newt's problem is dishonesty.  It's his past and leadership style.  He pretty much speaks the truth when it comes to the issues and what needs to be done to fix the economy.

Romney is definitely an opportunist based on the way he tried to out-liberal Kennedy and now claims to be a conservative, but I wouldn't necessarily call him dishonest.

If you're looking for honesty from politicians, all I can say is good luck with that.

Even Ron Paul, who is an honest man, is just a politician.  He acted just like a garden variety politician when it came to accepting stimulus money and earmarks, despite speaking out against both.  It's what politicians do.
