The public continues to pick up the tab for President Obama’s “birthday gift” to the first lady — but this time it’s the local residents who are groaning, not the American taxpayer.

Michelle Obama’s extended Hawaiian vacation and move to Oprah Winfrey’s compound has done little but exacerbate the “Queen of Talk’s” already strained relationship with her neighbors.

Heightened security in the area turns what was once a quick 10-minute run to the store into an occasion to take along provisions, and “is making day-to-day life almost impossible,” wrote TMZ.

According to TMZ:

The owner of nearby Goble’s Flower Farm tells us … security checkpoints have been set up on the roads … blocking customers from shopping there.

Other business owners complain they can’t stock their shelves because road closures have screwed up their deliveries.

A worker at Grandma’s Maui Coffee tells us, employees are arriving VERY late to work.

And it’s not just businesses that are being interrupted — fun and recreation are also affected with local hiking trails shut down for the first lady.

And what do the locals get in return? Not much, as it turns out, even those privileged few who are actually invited over for her 50th birthday celebration. Guests have been told to eat before attending her “Snacks & Sips & Dancing & Dessert” celebration, according to the New York Daily News.

Apparently, she doesn’t want to be bothered with actually feeding people. After all, it’s really all about her, isn’t it?

Don't want to discount the affect this is having, but she's in Hana on Maui, which is a very small town.  Not a lot going on.  Not much to screw up.  Much less of a disruption for her to be there than on Oahu.

Michelle to Return from Hawaii by Wednesday
by KEITH KOFFLER on JANUARY 13, 2014

Alas, it’s over.

After 24 days on vacation in Hawaii, including ten without her husband and children, First Lady Michelle Obama will return to Washington by Wednesday.

Michelle, who has been holed up at Oprah Winfrey’s fabulous spread on Maui since President Obama and their daughters departed Hawaii January 4, has an event – a White House screening of an educational movie – scheduled for Wednesday at 4 pm. That means she’ll leave Hawaii Tuesday night at the latest.

The first lady’s decision to extend her vacation will probably cost taxpayers in excess of $200,000, including the cost of a special flight aboard an Air Force jet.

Again  - to the cry baby who screams moral superiority and the high road - do you think it is a coincidence that both parties refuse to work with obama any more on anything?

...

Whoa!  Crybaby?!?

Aren't you the same guy who created that other thread where you were criticizing Obama for NOT crying in public?

Let's get this straight:  Is the Soul Crusher pro- or anti- crying?

Obamas Made Hawaii Trip to Showcase Income Inequality
by KEITH KOFFLER on JANUARY 16, 2014

In what can only be described as a remarkable sacrifice for the public good, the Obamas’ extended vacation in Hawaii was staged entirely to showcase for the public what happens when you allow too much income inequality.

According to White House advisors close to the president – not close, as in standing next to him all the time, but who have a close relationship with him, at least professionally – the Obamas planned and executed their exorbitant excursion to Hawaii for no other reason than to show Americas how disgustingly well the disgustingly rich live and to drum up support for Obama’s agenda to close the income gap.

“The president and Mrs. Obama this year wanted to just take a three-day weekend at a Ramada Inn in Philadelphia,” said one White House source. “But they felt that, for the good of the country, they must head to Honolulu so people could understand what’s really going on with income inequality.

On the record, aides were more circumspect. “The president always stands ready to do what’s right for the American people, even if this involves some inconvenience and level of sacrifice on his part” said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

To drive the point home, President Obama played golf nine times while in Hawaii. “I’m sick of golf. I’m not going,” Obama snapped as he was told by aides he must head out to the links for the ninth and final time.

The president then had to be restrained after smashing a vase of orchids with his putter, according to sources who were present at the time of the incident, which occurred in the billiards room of his rental home. But aides then calmed him down and convinced him he must shoot one last round – for the people’s sake.

Soon after playing, it was time to head home.

But Mrs. Obama, who is whispered to be the most forceful advocate within the White House of ending income inequality, believed that even after more than two weeks on vacation, the Obamas had not done enough. With time running out on their rental, Michelle volunteered to make the arduous journey from Oahu to Maui, where she would spend another nine days or so at the home of Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah’s pad was not her first choice, aides emphasized.

“She expressed a desire to stay at the Maui Motel 6, but we convinced her that the only way to truly make her point was to hang out with Oprah,” said a person close to Michelle. Again, not person close to Michelle  like sitting at the same table with her or something, but close to her in that, you know, they talk.

According to several informed sources, Michelle is considering skiing this year in the Alps, believing that her annual trips to Aspen do not sufficiently showcase the lifestyles of the rich and famous for the benefit poor people.

Meanwhile, Obama next month will jet down to Florida again for golf lessons with Tiger Woods, and he plans to enhance this symbolic demonstration of the income gap with a practical step toward closing it by this time tipping the caddies.

New Air Force documents show that the tab to taxpayers for recent trips President Obama and his family took to Africa and Honolulu was nearly $16 million – and that's just for the flights.

The documents obtained by activist group Judicial Watch show the Africa trip required 35.5 flight hours. At a cost of $228,288 per flight hour, the total cost was a staggering $8,104,224.

For the Obamas' Christmas vacation in Honolulu, starting in December 2013 and ending in January 2014, the documents, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, show the first family accumulated 36.9 total flight hours. At a cost of $210,877 per flight hour, the flight costs alone for that trip totaled $7,781,361.30, according to the Air Force documents.

That amount, Judicial Watch said in a press release, is $3,695,006.10 more than the Obama family’s flight expenses for their 2012-2013 Honolulu Christmas vacation.

The total airfare bill for the U.S. taxpayer for the two trips is $15,885,585.30.

“The costs to taxpayers of President Obama’s travel, especially his luxury vacation travel, are beyond the pale,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. “And the secrecy surrounding these costs shows that Obama’s vows of transparency are rubbish.”

The Africa trip ran from June 27, 2013, until July 3, 2013. The Obamas visited three countries in Africa: Senegal, South Africa, and Tanzania. A report in The Washington Post estimated the total trip cost to be about $100 million, to which the White House responded, according to The Hill, that the trip was a “great bang for our buck.”

The first family’s 17-day Honolulu vacation began on December 20, 2013, after Obama said at a press conference that he was "eager to skip town."

These documents come in the wake of February reports from Judicial Watch that the first family’s eight-day August 2013 vacation in Martha’s Vineyard cost taxpayers $1,164,268.60 in flight costs alone.

Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton also traveled to Africa, and their trips cost tens of millions of dollars, as well.

However, Obama has traveled more internationally and at a higher expense than any president before him at the same point in their presidencies, according to a National Taxpayer Union study released earlier this week.

Yes, those of us who pay taxes have been paying enormous amounts of money for Obama vacations.

You are quite the partisan if you think everyone in the Republican Party is a laughing stock of the country.  You just posted a picture of governors and senators who were elected to public office.  I guess all those voters who put them there didn't consider them a laughing stock.

But you're also the person who said the Republican Party is dead.  The same party that holds the House, is poised to retake the Senate, and holds the majority of governorships and state legislatures.

Who paid for Bush's vacations?  How many more did he take?  Let's not let your little stupid act get in the way of your actual stupidity.  It's pretty much accepted you are the biggest hypocrite on the board, but before you fall back on the usual whine of "it's not about Bush" or whatever variation you want to use, you can easily show us where you are against presidents taking vacations of any kind.  Surely the act is just as bad no matter which sitting party is doing it.

And yeah...  the Republican party is pretty dead.  It can't even unite itself on a day to day basis.  For some party to hold the House, retaking the Senate, and holds the majority of the govs and state legis, they sure as shit can't stop much of Obama agenda.  Hell, they can't even nominate anything other than former libs and RINOS.

Holy smokes.  What an angrily little dude.  Did your mommy not hug you enough as a kid?

In any event, yes taxpayers always fund portions of presidential vacations.  That doesn't make the Obamas' wasteful vacations any less wasteful.

If the Republican Party is dead, then why are they in control of so much of the country, and continually making gains?  Doesn't make sense.

But I'm about done.  If you want to stop acting like a little punk and talk about issues like a grownup, I'm happy to continue.

Obama again?  Just Obama?   Does it make Bush's vacation any less wasteful?

Instead of regurgitating a half ass answer, why not just post a link to where you claimed the same for Bush?  Surely, your feelings about presidential vacations being wasteful didn't materialize overnight when Obama took office.   That would render any counter claim I may/will make of you being a hypocrite irrelevant.  Good luck with it though.

Didn't know that exposing hypocrisy was "angrily".

Who cares about whether I or anyone else criticized Bush for overspending on vacations years ago?  I know you like to harp on calling people hypocrites, but seriously, what does that have to do with whether the Obamas are being reckless with taxpayer money?

I'm talking about Obama because he's president.  The Bush boogeyman is gone (and ironically more popular than Obama).  The fact Obama does things like sends two planes to Hawaii at taxpayer expense and his wife spends hundreds of thousands on vacations is really an abuse of the privileges afforded to the president, particularly during "the worst recession since the Great Depression."  It's also poor leadership.  I frankly don't care if Bush, Clinton, Ford . . . Teddy Roosevelt also did the same thing.  Doesn't make it right.
