What made you fall for bodybuilding?
« on: December 29, 2011, 01:50:39 PM »
In created my "17 year old me" thread, and seeing those pictures, I'm reminded of how dedicated and excited I was for the "sport" of bodybuilding. I was excited to train, excited to see changes in my body and felt good about eating healthy when I eventually did.  In addition, seeing the guys in the magazines like King Dorian, Flex, Shawn and Kevin lit a fire within me to want to be better.

So today, instead of dwelling on what I feel now is a mess of a "sport", I call upon those fond memories as a young lad that wanted to achieve his idea of physical perfection for himself, enjoy training, and enjoy the facade the mags put out there with SOME supplementation use.

This is not to judge those that do more, or less or not at all. It is about what you feel is best for you. Only you can decide that.

Train hard....off to the gym

getting obsessed with bodybuilding is an easy trap to fall into. I found myself getting there and knew I had to put a stop to it for two reasons
1. not having to mega dose on drugs
2. after you reached your goal physique...the bigger you get, the worse you look to the general public.

Arnold (as an actor). I think the first time I have seen the Oak was in T2 on tv. I was just  :o Never seen a guy so huge. After a few years, I discover yates, platz and coleman, a whole new level. But at the beginning, arnold.

I was a chunky kid, who was decent at regular sports, but always lacked a little something to be great at them. I had dabbled in weightlifting a bit all through HS, and one day during senior year I looked through a old MM2K magazine my friend was reading, and though "aw, heck, let me try this for a bit".

After about 2 years, I switched over to Powerlifting because I liked the strength aspect of it.

Now I just do it because I enjoy getting under the bar, and the solitary nature of the sport/hobby.  Whether you pass or fail at this thing of ours, it's all up to you.

A friend of mine showed these sexy photos of a young buffed,  strapped 17 year old 1/2 jewish black male in seductive bodybuilding poses.  That sealed the deal for me and life in the gym and iron.

2 guys in my hometown looked like gods to me as a kid so I started training..........also met a kid in school who trained with one of these guys and he kinda` showed me the ropes.

One guy was Chris Gordon who is in Pumping Iron the movie, and the other guy was IFBB pro Dave Mastorakis.

Watching action movies. I was always amazed and impressed by good physiques. I remeber being a little kid watching old Bruce Lee movies. I had his pictures plastered all over my walls. I bought the bodybuilding magazines. I worked out more than anyone that I went to highschool with. It was hard for me to put any size on because I was playing 3 sports a year starting in 7th grade. It was a full time job. I was always running and doing cardio. I ran middle distance in track I burned a lot of calories. Finally the summer before my senior year of college football I got some human grade sust amps and a shitload of the legit pink thais. I put on a lot of muscle! I fell in love with bodybuilding all over again!

I love to look good now. I like the attention Son and fathers bla blah blah!

Working out in HS, a coach told me that I should take up bbing, as I was very disciplined...I bought a 1994 Ironman Magazine that covered the NOC, and saw John Sherman, Mike Francois, and Nasser. They had a preview for the 94 Mr. O---saw Shawn Ray, and I kept reading about Flex Wheeler this, Flex Wheeler that...
In the back of the mag was an ad for the 92 USAs, and Flex doing a Front Double Biceps---I said that I wanted to look like that---he was all swoopy, and round---small waist, tiny joints...I had a very small waist and very tiny joints.

I agree. I loved Dorian, then I saw Flex and was a Flex guy...Looking back, I respect Dorian alot more but an inshape Flex is ideal.
