And we should honor them, but let's be honest, if we still had the same styles/genres (pop, rock&roll, jazz, soul, etc..) as in the 6-8ties, most of us would be bored as hell. Times have changed, so did people and so did music. There's still a wealth of music, but the difference is, is that you won't hear most of those pearls on the radio.
I hear ya` brother..............but I just can`t get into most of the stuff out there these days.

I`m old and bitter and set in my ways!  ;)

Times do change as you said, and you`re right, there`s some good stuff out there if you look in the right places.

Maybe it's the heavy use of electronics? About 20 years ago I hated everything with electronics, synthesizer gods like Vangelis & Jean Michel Jarre excluded, but some years later I heard the difference between good beats/samples/loops/etc and cheap commercial onen, so I would say, give your ears a chance without bitterness  ;)

Well, Avicii is a great DJ, what you mostle listen is the remixes done by others or his work in electro-pop with artists, his solo releases are top grade contemporary house music for me.

You can also look for:

Busho DJ
DJ Thera
Laidback Luke
Sebastian Ingrosso
Danger
Pretty Lights (not sure they keep releasing though, GREAT band to hang out with friends, not massive party, but gathering and whatnot)

Is this (V) the legit Avicii? I hear that music crap every day on my work. The same goes for Laidback Luke. Of course, it's just a matter of taste, but Diamondcut asked for recommendations that you can't hear on the regular radio stations, so no commercial trance or hardcore stuff.

This is a vocal remix of several of his tracks, I do not know if he remixed this, but I dont think so since I usually look for his music and never came across with this.

Download "The Singles", it has the original mixes, such as this, my personal favorite:

Just going to emphasize how insane this song is...pure House beats, no vocals, no trenbalonie, no filth.

Also, none of the hardcore/post-hardcore I posted is mainstream, I think...I do not live in Americana.  I could find more obscure stuff to post in like 5 mins.  I could expand on that if you wish, I have some time.

Typical headbanger response  ;D
I love metal, esp during my workouts, like Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch & Tool for example, but not all the time.

When I wanna bring it down and romance the babes, I put on one of my AC/DC CDs.

'When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV.'
