i like how no one is calling schools greedy for taking kids money adn the government's money

i hate how in today's culture kid's egos are bloated from day 1, every day they hear that they are a super star, that their opinion matters, be a leader not a follower lol

it really slows them down

It's funny how recent grads think it's a new phenomenon that they can't get a job out of college. It's never been easy getting your first job, it's the disadvantaged time of your entire career.

I fucking copy and pasted my essays from English class, and I still passed. I was going to school for graphic design, so classes like photoshop, autocad, and Illustrator were vital. All of those math, science, english classes etc... were designed to suck your wallet dry.

Bullshit. You are either a horrible interview or you are full of shit. My company is currently scraping the bottom of the barrel, most without degrees for 45-50K a year. Maybe you need to lower your standards a bit.

college is not a trade school

If you want to learn about Stendhal or study Darwin then college is fine

but if you want to learn to make a living then learn a trade as soon as you get out high school

also, it's not the colleges fault. College's offer "higher education"...they don't offer "job/financial security"

Many college dropouts do so because they never make the mental leap from high school to college. In high school, students tend to think “It’s me vs. the teacher!” Wrong. In college you quickly learn (if you’re smart) that “It’s me vs. the other students!” Your competition is not the professor. Remember, he or she already has multiple degrees and in many cases teaching is not even their primary concern—they are focused on their own research and scholarship.

Your competition is the other students. Who is willing to study harder, work harder, learn more languages (spoken, computer, etc.), acquire more skills, and become socialized more quickly into a professional field? The student(s) who does that, does it well, effectively wins the race into a job or graduate/professional school. Shizzo81 never understood that. He lost the race. Of course, one can go on to a measure of prosperity without college; there are significant examples of this, but the odds are against it. I would never let a child in my family drop out of college.

but that's what they tell all the kids in high school. that's what all the teachers and politicians and the media tells them - they need to go to college, and once they graduate then they just effortlessly earn a middle class salary with any college education. reality is obviously different but i doubt most kids pursuing their philosophy degree realize it won't earn them anything more than a better position at walmart.
