I last squatted 425x12 and leg pressed 1,125 15 times, but now I can't squat at all and I'm going to physical therapy for patella issues. Both knees are fucked from 10yrs of racing bmx when I was younger, then gaining 70lbs of muscle and a shit ton of strength in just 5yrs time when I finally decided to go "on." the pain has been there for 3yrs now and keeps getting worse, well its finally to the point where it literally feels like my knee cap is going to bust through my fuckin skin. So my dumbass finally decided maybe its time to stop doing heavy presses for a while.
After going to PT, it turns out my tear drop muscle overpowers my outer quads and pulls my knee cap in the opposite direction it is naturally supposed to go while pressing. Both knees also hyperextend, which is terrible for leg extensions, considering I've always fully extended them to get the best possible contraction and squeeze. So yea, I can squat and press decent weight, but now my knees are fucked and need PT. No need for surgery, because the problem can be fixed thank god, but still, it fuckin sucks!!!! My legs are slightly big compared to my upper body anyway though, so taking a little time off from quads will help even that out. I'm definitely still training hams and calves though. No pain with those exercises obviously.
