Amazing the amount of uneducated, uniformed armchair police gurus in this thread. Cop did what was EXPECTED of him. Allowing a criminal to escape would be a serious breach of his duty so picking her up at home later is not an option.
As for tackling her instead of tasing her? 267 pounds tackling a tiny crack head woman = 100% injury to the woman and potential injury to the officer.
Tasing the woman = 1/10 000 chance of injury to woman (real stat, not made up bullshit, read a peer reviewed article FFS).
And not one single person has mentioned the real problem here. The girl ran away because she was probably found with a couple of rocks on her, or a small amount of meth and was scared of going to jail for the rest of her life because she has an addiction. If the American system was to due away with this ridiculous "War On Drugs" and treat drug addicts as medical/ social problems like the rest of the modern world does, she probably wouldn't have cared if the cops picked her up.
I work with drug addicts/mentally disordered everyday, and when someone gets to violent so that verbal communication won't make them leave our facility we call the police, who arrive, and VERY RARELY ever make an arrest. Usually just their presence is enough to make the addict calm down. And if they DO go to jail then it is only for a week or two, and allows them time to start getting clean and out of their addiction.
