Respectable bench weight
« on: February 26, 2012, 06:21:53 PM »
What is a respectable bench weight for the following?

-natural, never touched gh/anabolics/pro hormones EVER...just too much booze, weed, coke, hydrocodone
-35 years old, 2 kids, full time work, full time school
-shitload of stress
-170lbs, 12% bf, 5'9, white
-rollercoaster workout background(serious for some time followed by months of nothing)

I started using the intellegent bench press form(powerlifting style)

In the last 6 weeks i have dropped 18.5lbs and 3.4% bf, my bench 1rm went from 205lb to
260lb and it is starting to drop a little to around 245 from cutting

I feel that 260lb at 170lb bw is pretty good considering my sickening lack of willpower

A full-grown adult male who lifts with any sort of consistency should be able to bench his bodyweight at least eight times imo.

i think i can get 315 by the end of the year if i stay very focused, i would be satisfied for life
with getting 3 plates just once at my size

it amazed me how fast the weight increase by using powerlift form

people knock bench, saying it is an ego lift but it works my whole front
upper body minus biceps

for what its worth i do 255 for 12 on the incline smith,,when i do it as first chest exercise,,im 200lb and very lean,,,lots of hormones,,,i dont think its very strong but i dont know i dont care about weight,,if i do it after 20 other sets of chest its something like 185 for 12...dumbells i do 95's for about 12....im pretty weak on curls,,,i can only curl the 35's for 12 with great form,,,shrug 355 for 12 with good form on smith,,,, can't squat for shit lol i dont even do it,,,cant dead due to torn labrum,,,most i ever benched was 345 for 7 back when i was 260,,not lean at all,,,fat bloofy bouncer look,,,on cycle,,,then i tore my pec that was too much weight for me im naturally weak...at the time i was probably the biggest bencher at my golds,,,but at my new gym i see some big bloofy guys doing 6 + plates and come change,,just big bloofy fat guys

A 1RM of 205 at 170 lbs is pretty weak, most high schoolers can probably do that, but 260 at that body weight isn't bad I'd say.

Exactly. I was going to say 1.5 times your bodyweight for anyone who's hitting the gym on a pretty regular occasion.

For people who say they actually work out or walk around wearing wife beaters and shit, you should bench double your weight or else cover up the pipe cleaners and stop jutting your chest out like a peacock.

is this 260 "touch and go" or is it with a strict pause at the bottom or a "bridge and bounce" affair?

Once my wrist stops hurting I'm gonna max out on bench one day, see where I'm at compared to the studs on getbig.

Right, like you could stop jerking off long enough to heal your wrist.  :D

your bodyweight + 100 lbs.

this makes no sense...a 170lb guy benching 270 is much more impressive than a 250lb guy
benching 350

no not really

you really believe you can just throw a poundage out without regard to weight statistics

so you are saying the bigger you are, the less you have to lift to be equally as strong?
