Plus, nurses and doctors, back in the day, got paid from PRIVATE entities (some of which were religious institutions).

That's why, for example, virtually no private sector company will fund embryonic stem cell research. It costs too much and, to date, hasn't cured JACK. Other forms of stem cell research will get funded in the private sector all day long. There are cures to be had and $$$$ to be made.

Not entirely true - there are also significant concern about the legal framework and the potential for public backlash. No company wants to end up in Court, or to have a bunch of rabid pro-lifers camping outside its offices and generating a lot of bad publicity.

Yes Food is a right that is why we have food stamps.  Having a house is and should be a right soon, section 8 housing is very affordable, but not free, they still need to make the next step.  We need to be a humane species, not barbaric and not care for our fellow human beings in this country.
