What do you curl with?

 I'm just curious what others curl with db or bb.
I do 35 db and 80 with bb.

im stuck with 65lbs for10. i cant get up the 70's bc their freaking too thick. on bb curl ii max out at 155lbs. i've EZ curls the quarts on each side whick is 150lbs (not adding the EZ bar). hammer curl 85's for 6.

bb curls i start with (pre set) 70. then i work my way up to 100 for my final work set. usually about 6-8 reps. never maxed out. probably about 13 ish or somewhere in there.

Jeez what do you guys weigh?  How long have you been lifting?  I have been for 8 months or so and I weigh 170lbs.

i dont go heavier than 135 for 12 on barbell curls (olympic bar + 2 45s)
could probably go for ~170 atleast for a few reps

70lb hammers for 8 reps w dumbells

I can curl my bodyweight 195lbs on bb curls for 1 rep. Of course im cheating a bit with momentum, 135lbs for 8 strict reps though. db curls 55 for 10 strict reps.

I can flat BB curl 155 for 8-12 reps after training back and then hit 80 DB's for 8-12 on hammers. i've been training roughly 7 years and 100% natural at 232 pounds.

Yesterday I did PBs: 115 on barbell curls for eight reps and 7 reps on dumbbell curls with 45 pounds.

PB's are 135 for 9 (2 25's plu 5 each side) on close grip easy bar curls (quite strict) and DB hammers 80's for 6 @ 5'9" 215lbs

no one is touting unreal #'s...and if you look around teh gym most pple do half curl/half power clean anyways

The question is really pointless...curls are just for the girls anyways :D

That reply was pointless really....and utterly senseless.  Only girls want strong arms or muscular ones?  I dont rely on all my other push/pull exercises to strengthen my arms.....maybe you're just lazy. :P

OK, I realize you took the short bus to school...let me spell it out for you: Bicep curls, or direct bicep work is not exactly a functional exercise.  Doing curls at your stage of the game is really only neccesary for vanity reasons (or to impress the ladies...don't worry I'm sure your bf will like it too) Does that clarify you simple turd?  Here is a training tip for you...concentrate on your squat, dead, row etc #'s and less on what you are curling.

As for "pointless" and "utterly senseless" that would be this thread as well as the person who started it ;)

You're right but I've learned no matter how many times you explain the truth to 'em, you'll make little or minimal progress.  I've been here for six years and that simple truth never changes.  No different than in the gym watching a guy weighing 140 doing set after set of curls.  You can't have big arms till you have a big body.  I've not seen a 140 pounder yet with 17 inch guns and won't.  Given that you have a limited amount of inputs affecting one's ability to recover, it seems someone would get that one should focus on the very basic compound movements (squats and a chest, delt and back exercise for the first two years at a minimum.  Hell, I only did two sets of dumbell curls AFTER back all the way to competition day but I also did weighted underhanded chins with 3 45's attached  ;)

17 inch? unless dieted down to about 3 percent body fat...those are more like purse pistols. lol.

Specially if they are at a low bodyfat percentage...


there is this fat dude at my gym who always brags about having 20 inch arms...well the fucker weighs about 260 and has to be over 25% bodyfat. you can't even tell he has a bicep when he flex's in the mirror after every set.

I am drug free and have 20 arms.

I only curl using a straight olympic barbell with 5# plates on each end. Hit 2 sets with that, go up 2.5# on third and fourth set, and another 2.5# on he last 2 sets.

That is not much weight but I have never had strong biceps/brachii muscles. In fact, when I first started training I could not do bar curls at all b/c of "shin splints", which happens to a minority of lifters. Very painful.

My power is in my triceps.

Interesting subject. Last time I ever did any serious curling was when I was playing college football and that's been eleven years ago. I couldn't tell you what they measured than or now but when you include the Big Boy exercises (squats, DL's, benches, dips, etc) the arm's tend to meet that requirement and get larger & stronger (along with the rest of the body) without any direct curling exercises. Of course doing a few curling/tricep press set's after a heavy lifting program is icing on the cake.

When 619Rules said that his power is in his triceps that would suggest that he has natural (genetric) stronger pushing power than pulling power. The triceps respones better to gaining muscular size.  The potentionl for a 400+ BP, heavy pressing, dipping, etc is present. Guy's with a stronger pull (biceps) are usually the one's who do 360lb rows, two/three plate chins, etc. Their biceps usually respond better to gaining muscular size.  Those very rare muscular, true steel tape measured 20/21" arms are helped greatly by a equal balance of tricep/bicep potentional. Not many trainee's can ever gain such size no matter how long or hard they train. Good Luck.
