Not bad at all, especially if they were done in good form.

I train at a college gym and see guys doing chins who look like they are being electrocuted !!  ;D

In highschool we had a board going all the way back to the 60's. The record was 52! That's a hell of a lot of pull ups to do! I got 28 and landed somewhere on the top ten. I can't do as many now. I do as many sets as it takes me to get 40 that's how I usually start my back workouts. Usually first set I can get 15 than It lowers a big next couple sets.

I like this approach and I increase the total  goal as I get stronger....works great even if you only start out doing a few reps.

It's a very good way to do it. Once I get 40 I will go over to the assisted pullup machine put 50 pounds on it and get 15-20 to really get a good stretch.

For a smaller man, that's a decent number, especially if they were clean and not the kipping(swinging type).

Did 8 reps today with +25 @ 245. Not good by any stretch but just put them back in.

That's key!  And the few guys who do 'chin' at my place, use such weird grips and use so much body language, I really couldn't tell you what they're working.   :-\

That's 50 kips not 50 pull ups. I wonder if he could do 15 legit pull ups.

Wide grip pull ups to the back of the neck, with no swinging, and you`re lucky to get 15 reps.Just started doing them again after many years of close grip with a V bar.

One of the best exercises for me.

Made me stronger, wider in back/delts.

Good for forearms as well.

Also started back on these.

My best was 110lbs added. Nothing ground breaking but decent.

I usually do 4 sets of 14-16 with a 45lb plate. For ego fluffing purposes I've done pull ups with a few plates on there with solid form, but it felt like two times more weight than necessary and didn't do anything good. Whatever weight you can do which challenges you and lets you still get a good mind-muscle connection is what you should use.

I think anyone who says they "bodybuild" or work out should be able to do 20 reps with just bodyweight or 10 reps with a 45lb plate, even if it's just for one set. If you can't do anymore than that, lift your shirt up and see how much pudge is there. Unless you're 280lbs and 5% bf, you're probably not as swole as you think you are (ie, you are fat and weak).

When I was in the Marine Corps I used to do 20 deadhangs like it was going out of style. Strong forearms and abs help alot with the last few.

Conversely, the people I never see doing pullups are the fat, delusional permabulkers so you've gotta find a balance.

I love doing them because I always need to crack my back. After I warm up that's the first thing I do... I'm addicted to CRACKing my back.

Yeah, man. They tell me squats and deadlifts are enough cardio, enough stimulation for the core and that it raises testosterone and demented shit like that LOL... okay, I guess it must be working out for them, eh? :-X

Well, they deadlift girl weight, they squat with the pussy pad and the only thing big and tough they do is grunt and smell like a beast. That's why I love showing up to the gym wearing sweats and letting them swing their weights and grunt like phaggots. I always lift as quiet and controlled as possible. The weights I push are heavier and after I'm warmed up I peel back the layers and watch them meltdown and workout on the other side of the gym. 8)

I'll admit though, I only did chins for a couple years, stopped for a few and only started doing them again in the last year. I've seen improvements in my back which can't be said for fatties with inches of insulation. I feel they're very worthwhile now.
