The Sanford Neighborhood Watch volunteer who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, did not instigate the encounter but has received death threats and moved out of his home, his father told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday.

George Zimmerman, 28, has not been arrested, something that has put him and the Sanford Police Department at the center of a firestorm. Critics say Trayvon, who was visiting family from his home in Miami, was a victim of racial profiling.

Zimmerman's father, 64-year-old Robert Zimmerman of Lake Mary, delivered a one-page letter to the Sentinel on Thursday, saying that the depiction of his son in the media has been cruel and misleading.

George Zimmerman is Hispanic and grew up in a multiracial family, the statement says.

"He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever ...," the letter says. "The media portrayal of George as a racist could not be further from the truth."

The letter does not provide details about what happened Feb. 26 on a walkway in the gated community where George Zimmerman lives and where Trayvon was visiting. But it does challenge one basic assumption of the family's lawyers: that Zimmerman's intent when he got out of his sport utility vehicle was to confront Trayvon after calling police to report a suspicious person.

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama weighed into the controversial killing in Florida of black teenager Trayvon Martin for the first time on Friday, pledging to "get to the bottom" of the shooting and telling the parents "if I had a son he'd look like Trayvon."

He was told not to pursue, and he did. He had no probable cause...and if he was LE, it still wouldn't be ok, it would have been worse, because it would have shown that the officer was poorly trained.

Dude is fat, imagine a world where he went out after a game to get candy and chips, in this world, fat people are seen as criminals who suck up people's air, money, and take up way too much space. Well, a skinny dude who is a neighborhood watch sees Zimmerman, and automatically assumes Zimmerman is responsible for the break ins of people's kitchens where fat people have stolen cookies, pies, chips, and candy, well he calls police, they advise him to not pursue...but he does anyway, and ends up shooting Zimmerman.

All Zimmerman's crime was being "fat". See the absurdity? Oh, and for all dude knew, Zimmerman could have hiding a bazooka under his fat.

I feel the sameway. I'm pissed bc now everyone is questioning the "stand your ground" law. It's supposed to protect people that are confronted. Not be used as an excuse for some fatass wannabe to play cop in his neighborhood.
