Naan Bread
« on: March 21, 2012, 02:37:18 PM »
I have been hearing that Naan bread is supposed to be a healthy carb source (eaten with humous)  and I was finally able to find a store that carries it, however it seems to have the same nutritional content as regular bread with high sugar content and low nutritional value. Is it just basically flattened white bread? Or are there brands of naan bread that can be considered a good carb source?

oh brother lol, where did you hear that shit?

Naan bread is for when regular shitty white sugary bread is not shitty enough and you want to push the shitty boat out a bit further (nutritionally speaking of course)

When I grab a curry, I always have large meat dish (not a horrible oily or creamy one) and a large Dosa, which is a south indian type of carb side. Kind of like a pancake but really thick and light/fluffy. Almost no oil and made entirely from rice so great if wanting to avoid wheat/oil/sugar.

I looked up a recipe for naan bread and this is what I found

Ingredients

1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
    1 cup warm water
    1/4 cup white sugar
    3 tablespoons milk
    1 egg, beaten
    2 teaspoons salt
    4 1/2 cups bread flour
    2 teaspoons minced garlic (optional)
    1/4 cup butter, melted

Looks and sounds like it would be tasty toasted lightly, dipped in seasoned olive oil or with spicy hummus or a tapenade.

As a "good" carb source?  Depends what you mean by "good".

I think 'good' would only relate to how you would feel as you are eating it  ;D

It makes for a tasty cheat meal...

I just buy it frozen and heat it in a frying pan.
