Rushed to the hospital and saw my dad an hour after he passed. I was in total shock... His Dr thought he had bronchitis but it ended up that both lungs were completely covered with lung cancer(smoked his entire life). Was totally coherent on Friday, slipped into coma on Saturday, pulled off life support Sunday morning. Cigarettes got him a age 62. There was no hope for any treatment, medication, anything. At least, we never had to watch him suffer for months and months. It was a hard time.
He went through exactly what all of those new smoking tv commercials show: literally suffocating from the inside, gasping for breath
My grandmother died(101 years) in my arms and same with my wife's grandfather(76 years).
When I was a kid, my family and I were in a campground sitting around the fire. On the adjacent highway, we heard a massive head on collision between:2 grandparents and their grandson in a pickup truck vs. a semi tractor trailer. I ran with my dad over to the pick up truck. The young boy and the grandpa were alive/awake and the grandma was dead in the drivers seat with the steering wheel/dashboard buried in her torso. My dad checked for vitals as I was standing next to him. He told me she was dead. That was so sad. The grandson kept on asking how his grandma was, over and over... sad.
I've seen a few other deceased people just after they passed(accidents, etc...)
