Ben white isn't a particularly super strong deadlifter compared to his bench numbers

IMo straps are necessary (when training) for back size once you get heavy to help you hold on to the weight.. before your fore arm give out...

exactly... im more concerned with having a super strong and big back.... grip strength is secondary to me... and shouldnt be allowed to compromise a huge coumpound lift like the deadlift.  But saying that i only use straps once i get really heavy on deads

Sounds like your forearms are too tired from all the masturbating you do to pictures of yourself.

I remember an interview where he explained that he trains for "overall strength", he refuse the use of belts, straps, wraps, etc as much as possible. He's blessed with thick joints & long muscle bellies, that helps.

I have done a workout without straps and has not ended in complete fatigue on all the muscle groups in the back (which is a must from a bodybuilding perspective). The muscle in my hand and forarms simple can't make it through 20-25 sets of deadlifts, bent-over rows, dumbell rows, chin-ups, pull downs and shrugs, without straps. Don't get me wrong I respect a lift more if done without straps but the goal in bodybuilding is not the lift, it's the results from the lift, therefor straps are a must, for me anyway

I was a little wrong about that interview, the use of accessories wasn't discussed here (was prob another interview with him), but starting @2:40 he explains his training philosophy. Notice the relative ease in which he positions those heavy ass DB's for a set of incline presses (around  5:00), now that's overall strength!

Edit: around 9:00 he talks about the use of straps

interesting to hear him speak, i wonder how much gear he takes. i know strength is a different game compared to bodybuilding's "the more you take the better you do".

Idiot at 25 secs trying to bounce the weight up.

4 plates and he had to be 250 - 280 at least!

Derek Poundstone came into the Arnold at around 330 with a six pack and competed against guys at 400+ pounds and come in 2nd, dude is one strong mother.

would love to have a physique like poundstone. so impressive and the carry over to bodybuilding stuff is insane. good form aswell, in that video hes alternating between chinups at 325 pounds bw and 180 kg flat bench lol, madness.

ha, just got back from the gym, after watching some deadlifting video's was very focused on today's deadlifting workout, got 405 for twenty reps off the floor every rep. One of my favourite video's is the Benedikt Magnusson one where he get so psyched out and spills the container of chalk, lol, then he lifts 940 and doesn't drop it but let's it down slow, amazing, maybe someone can post the video, 8)

i agree, granted a good part of it is genetics but a leaned-out powerlifter physique just looks SO much more commanding than an all-juice gym rat.

Thanks, trying to get to 30 reps, have done 25 before, deads are my favourite have been doing them religiously for 15 years. Without the straps I would have been lucky to get 10 reps.
