While the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects the free speech rights of ordinary citizens, a Defense Department rule prohibits service members from engaging in some forms of political activity.

Among the prohibited activities are publishing partisan political articles or serving in an official capacity with a partisan political club.

Cant really say im suprised - the UCMJ is hyper-strict and has zero tolerance for the rules being broken.
He knew the rules and he chose to break them, and he knew that he could get fucked like this.

Im surprised they actually discharged him over this rather than slapping him with an NJP or something.
But I dont really know the UCMJ rules on this - I know that being a political activist while in uniform or using your military affiliation is strictly prohibitied, but I dont know the punishment range for it.
Sounds like someone pushed to have the rulebook thrown at him to make a point.
OTH isnt a huge deal. And they couldnt discharge him Honorably, not when the reason for discharge is a violation of the UCMJ.

I was expecting a general discharge.  OTH is pretty severe for what he did....its usually reserved for illegal drug use and misdemeanor crimes.

dude didn't follow the rules he agreed to follow.

i bet there's a LOT of military men who would LOVE to speak out against Obama, Bush before that, Clinton before that.

They agree not to.   Period.   It's not "obama being so mean to dis poor little guy, let's all be outraged".

Dude signed an agreement, took an oath, and knowingly broke it for his beliefs.

I hear this rule was actually in place before Obama took office.  Crazy, huh?

Had nothing to do with Obama, a panel of military officers decided his fate.  More than likely, its to discourage anyone else from doing it and him not stopping when told to do so.

The Marines have a reputation to keep...you can't even get an honorable discharge from the Marines unless your rating is 3 out of 4.

OTH is a general discharge broseph.

General - under other than honorable conditions.

Or did you mean General under Honorable conditions? Thats not usually used for people that are getting discharged because the broke the rules.

There isn't 2 General Discharges.  I know because I have a General Discharge myself.

A General Discharge means that your performance is satisfactory but its marred by considerable performance whether its a medical issue or a etc that prevents you from completing your service contract.  Its classified always as "Under Honorable Conditions" but you lose out on the GI Bill and certain programs that only an honorable discharge will give you.

An OTH discharge is one step down and although it isn't a  Bad Conduct Discharge it usually entails a court martial.  That's where I have the issue because I don't recall him going through a general court martial.  You lose most of your benefits, you're also barred from entering any US military base or office or holding a government job.  But its NOT A GENERAL DISCHARGE

Agreed, at some point the mentality of the government turned from "people voted in to represent the citizens", to "Politicians voted in to make our decisions for us, because the citizens are too dumb to be able to make their own decisions".

Then why is Obama still POTUS

Because his term, as described in the Constitution, hasn't expired yet, and he has not been impeached by the House, so that the Senate could hold a trial and decide whether to remove him from office on the articles of impeachment passed by the House?

Sounds silly, I know...

why is anyone that voted for Obamacare not thrown out of office?

The voters threw quite a few out of office. Off the top of my head, Baron Hill, Carol Shea-Porter and Kathy Dalkemper. I'm sure a list of others could easily be compiled. Some of those who voted for Obamacare weren't up for re-election, of course, so hard to throw those out.

Again, silly, but it's the system!

The voters can throw out whoever they want -- and conversely keep whoever they want -- come election time. It's got nothing to do with the ruling class and the peons and the silly language of class warfare you're using.

The point is all branches of the government take an oath to uphold/protect the constitution. Most use it as toilet paper. IMHO that is reason to be removed from office, election time or not.

I don't see it as class warfare, I see it as the peon's being to apathetic to hold those who serve in the government responsible for their actions. We are the boss, they work for us, we should be able to fire them at any time

And, of course, you want this removal to occur under the processes outlined in the Constitution, right?

So you want an ochlocracy. That answers my previous question. And, ironically enough, exposes you as one of those people who treat the Constitution like toilet paper, whether holding an office or not.

Obama is  not my president.  TP.  Me, Obama is the guy on the willis ave bridge in the south Bronx with a dirty rag trying to clean my windshield for 2 dollars and nothing more or less.

Obama is the President. Whether you consider him your President or not has no bearing on reality.

333 does not operate in reality.

In his little delusional land where only he resides he gets his marching orders from the voices in his head.

Meanwhile, Obama is POTUS for every single American citizen.

1)And how exactly is that going to happen? They don't uphold their oath to begin with. I'm sure we can count on impeachment proceedings to commence at any moment  ::)
 2) Really, mob rule ::), The constitution is the rule of law, I don't care if you were "elected" you are still bound by said law. You don't what the fuck you are talking about.
3) Yes I am serious, if you have shitty employee you fire them. The founders were well aware of the corruption that would eventually take over any form of government. And they expected the people would restore rule of law if need be. But please lets sit back and let the federal government completely destroy the country before we the people do anything ::)
