My uncle is in his seventies, and he likes going to the meetings. He is known in AA for helping new members.

I know, unfortunately from personal experience, it runs in the family the disease, and it can be kept in check
Last few years also saw a good friend deteriorate to the extent he is a different person. He has it bad, and hangs with like minded individuals that don't think they have a problem. Its made him a bitter, angry and ugly individual.
To prevent myself going down that road again, I had to sever contact with these people and lost a friend, but he wasn't the same person anymore.
But not being a kid anymore, I had to do the right thing.
