In Russia, anti-Putin protests on the streets of Moscow continue despite the risk of arrest. Some 200 activists have set up camp in the center of the city.

This is interesting. A small group is emboldened to rally in protest. But Putin is old school KGB. He's a political realist and silovik. He is also not alone. Power was once invisible in Russia (the best, most forceful kind of power wherein citizens self-monitor or self-discipline their thoughts and actions). Russia might not be the panopticon it used to be. Or maybe it still is: a few hundred people does not constitute critical mass.

It use to be the only way Moscow made money was arms sales. Now they are drilling like crazy and they have oil money. I wish the US would do the same.
