Dont think you can get a car with better performance than a GTR for the money, amazing cars!

I remember in the early 90s when a GTS-t was the car to have. They use to be so fucking quick! I can only imaging what a suped up GTR would be like

A Z06.

I'd say the GTR wins in interior (everything but comfort) and handling. The Z06 wins in feel, naturally aspirated roaring engine (subjective) and it gets you more attention if that is what you seek.

Id agree.
The new Corvette's are beasts, and the (relatively) new Gen3/4 LS small blocks are fucking monsters for what they are.
Mast and Edelbrock have a new canted valve LS head that flows well over 400cfm. Its pretty awesome.

Chevy really got it right with the LS design. I was a skeptic at 1st (back in 97), but they nailed it. Big Block Chevy will still rule for flat out power numbers, but the LS is a whole nother animal for its combo of size, efficiency, and power output.

The new high end Vette's truely are world class cars. (Z06 LS7 and ZR1 LS9 cars)

yes, stock vs stock maybe.

but once theyre modified and if were talking stret tires, the gtr blows the z06 away.

flexible awd, superior gearbox, thats the downfall of the z06.
Id argue the other way around.
If youre talking modified, Id take the Z06 anyday, especially if you decide to put some sort of forced induction on it.
There is that just left my school (Automotive Race Engineering school) that owns a 1000hp Z06, and it was daily driven, with little more than a blower installed.
I dont know a whole lot about the GTR, but I know that AWD has a hard time standing up to 1000hp launches on sticky tires. And the gearbox in the Vette isnt a piece of shit either.

I have a gtr and on the street nothing really comes close.....
At drag strip a zr1 would be tough to beat but rear wheel drive guys ALWAYS have an excuse... Bad launch, tires too much air, track not prepped, missed a gear, etc.....
Gtr is consistent and that makes it tougher

GTr beats the Vette enough video's on youtube to see , dragtimes, m5boarddotcom.  Its technology vs a rear plastic car.

The handling on the new GTR's is pretty incredible, (i was a passenger, wasn't driving it personally). I would think that a zr1 would be better on a quarter mile, but the gtr was built to race, not to do quarter mile. not really a fair comparison because these cars both have different niches in the automotive market, not really meant to compete with one another. Both are pretty amazing machines though. Personally I would buy a GTR if i had the money over a ZR1, but I really enjoy japanese style cars, (As my name shows).

Plastic, true, but the '96 GS90, built at Guldstrand Engineering in Culver City, Ca., built on the ZR-1, can still hold it's own against many of todays super cars.

AWD with 690 hp and a single clutch SMG type tranny vs a tuned 700 hp with a Dual clutch tranny, GTR of course.

thats what i mean, for a perfect run with a rear wheel drive, you need slicks and everything perfect, and you will fry your clutch very soon.

in the gtr, you can have the bonestock tires on the street, even a half wet or cold street suface, and just go full out.

the gtr has that smart awd which is only in effect for the launch, after that it sitches to pretty much rwd, so it hasnt any top end power loss, like other awd cars.

and that with the best automatic gearbox(sennas son said this) and launch control, its simply very consistent.

there are videos out there of russian guys with the switzer 800 gtr, beating everything coming their way, including a hayabusa bike

that said, the new porsche turbo is maybe even more of a beast, especially when modified.that car does 0-60miles in 3 seconds bone stock.
due to the awd.
rwd cars cannot ever do 3seconds 0-60 on any street tires(not even the 800hp brabus with all electronic launch control etc), they take 3.5 seconds, and to make that up during say a 1/4mile is almost impossible at these levels.

Take a look at the 458, the Mclaren, Agera, Pagani Huarya, and Zonda 760 RS and the new F12---all RWD cars, all with Dual Clutches, that is what getting them to 3 secs and under...But, what is interestings is not the numbers, but they are not chasing top speed---leave it up to Bugatti. The other cars are chasing handling and balance. By not focusing on outright top speed, with lowered top speed and increased downforce---wihout using huge wings, and stripping away weight, they are creating cars that far more balanced, and are stripping away speeds that almost make the gains of AWD negliable...almost.

youre right there, but still, and average driver will not get these numbers.while in an awd, everyone can get the manufacturers 0-60 on the street.its literaly stomping the gas pedal and wait, the car does the rest.while the cars mentioned above have a powerband wich restricts power down low and then explodes at upper rpm range, thats no fun for a daily driver, not to mention the cost.

the corvette community is asking for awd in the c7, even ferrari has now made an awd car.

i drive a powerfull german rwd car with all the electronic traction control etc, but even in good weather, the cpu takes out some power all the way through 1st and at the start of 2nd gear.
its very hard to get a proper launch in it.if you simply floor it while doing under 40mph, itll just break loose.

the power of 500hp and the torque that comes along with it is something people underestimate, in a showroom stock porsche turbo with awd, on an agressive launch, the tires will spin slightly, and porsche has a good rear/front weight ratio.

awd cars can have 500lbs feet torque straight after idle rpms and get perfect launches, making them awesome daily drivers.

just saying, rwd cars have still a way to go until they can compete in driveabilty and performance as far launches and daily driving are concerned.

all that said, a z06 and say a viper still have some unbeatable charme which a porsche lacks.

id have a viper or z06 before id get a gtr or awd porsche.

 8)

I agree with everything said... Awd is just better technology.... You will always have the rwd people say that it is a more pure driving experience but bottom line is Awd is better off launch,  you can exit turns faster, and when combined with a turbo, the modification possibilities are almost endless.... I live where elevation is 4000 ft above sea Level and trust me the naturally aspirated guys are at a HUGE disadvantage (corvette, viper, etc)

Badass vid...it's hilarious to see the lambo trying to keep up.

I drive a stock 911 996 and even with 320hp it's enough for me to have fun and at the same time to keep me out of trouble while daily driving.
I know a guy with a 911 turbo ...never been in it but I can't imagine over 500hp in such a small car.

These super cars like lambos...etc I really don't concern myself with even though they are badass because they are not daily drivers. They're more garage queens that come out during special occasions.

But anyone that has ever been in a Corvette with 800 horsepower while going 100 mph SIDEWAYS and tires spinning ....that feeling can not be duplicated. Pure muscle power awesomeness!
