His physique was considered "ugly".
Also he was known as an extreme abuser of synthol, couldn't have helped.

Then you are in luck because there are lots of (hetero) guys here who know every detail about the lives and muscle fibers of the muscled men who wear thongs and gyrate onstage for your entertainment. :D

He was waiting for Ben Weider to get bodybuilding into the Olympics, so he intentionally lost to maintain his amateur status ?

He won local contest to qualify for national level, however, never won a national level contest or his weight class at a national level contest, thus no pro card.

TOMMY W,you mentioned an interesting point up above there..

If Joe and Ben had been successful in getting bodybuilding into the Olympics, what US boeybuilders would have been qualified to represent the US?

(I do recall a few US IFBB pros planning to compete inthe Olympics if the Weiders were successful.)

And since the Olympic contenders are supposed to be amateur  athletes, that would have removed the US part of the IFBB out of the picture since the original IFBB/NPC agreement was/is that only the NPC would have 'control' over US amateur bodybuilders while the IFBB would 'cotrol' the pros.

There has never been such an agreement in Europe and to the best of my limited knowledge the IFBB sanctions both pro and amateur events over there, so it would have only been a 'problem' in the US of A.

I think.

Vas gave the correct answer to this question.

BILLY, I could be wrong here but you seem to carry a bit of animosity on some of these BB topics which I somehow find interesting but  somewhat different from my own experiences and observations.

I do see your name mentioned often on various boards but I have no idea how you're involved with bodybuilding, the NPC, or the IFBB other than the fact that you were once a friend of Daves/

My big question here is : How and why did Weinberger deny Dave a pro card? ......and if Dave did in fact qualify for such pro card, what was Weinberger's justification for denying that pro card?

I don't believe Weinverger makes those decisions.

Maybe you can elaborate if I am incorrect.

Thanks.

There wasn't a year when Dave deserved to win either pro qualifier.  He was enormous and pretty lean in offseason, but when he dieted down he would lose a lot of size and his structural flaws would become unbearable.  And the situation would repeat itself every year, except that he managed to get worse and worse with time, until he saw the writing on the wall, I guess and hung it up.  I highly doubt Steve Weinberger had much to do with him not becoming a pro

Sadly, Dave is a quite ugly, bug-eyed man with a steroid belly. The IFBB could not accept this in their ranks.

no these other guys have great looks ;D

He was a national contender in the 90s

But always a freakshow, in those days there were a lot of good bbers, and they just portrayed the human species better than palumbo
