The whole situation with DA has got me thinking. They are full of shit when they claim that there is an actual list that people go on for organ transplants. If I need a heart transplant tommorrow, wouldn't I theoretically go to the bottom of the list? Wouldn't that list contain hundreds of thousands of names? You would be shit out of luck (unless a family member/friend was a match) How do stars/famous people jump to the top? (Money?)
Hopefully somebody in the know can explain this process in better detail. If a normal joe blow has to go on the "list" he is going to die.
I work with liver transplant patients on a daily basis.
Of course these lists actually exist. To suggest otherwise is idiocy.
With liver there are situations that would exclude you from a transplant or significantly reduce your ability to get one. For instance if you had another malignancy such as breast cancer you would be less of a candidate than someone who was otherwise healthy. It gets more complicated then that even considering liver function, cause (alcohol versus otherwise) etc. etc. etc.
The same goes for kidneys. Nicorulez could speak on this more than I since he is a nephrologist.
DA would seem to be a high candidate for a renal transplant. Young and without a personal history of cancer.
The ethical dilemna of course that he brought this all on himself by abusing drugs (AAS, Narcotics and otherwise) is (thankfully for him) not an issue in the transplant priority list.
Of course, if you have a living donor (brother, sister, mother who will give you a kidney) you are not on the list.
