no way he is the greatest, not even top 20. I always got the feeling that he is playing sloppy, missing the attack peaks. You can compare him to Gilbert, as example of ideal accuracy, if you got ears, you'll hear it.

Lynch is a unique and talented player, no doubt. One of his era's best. But again, how can any one musician be "the best"?
Is there a way to quantify this?

To paraphrase A.J. Liebling: no more virtuosic guitarist is as lyrical, and no more lyrical guitarist is as virtuosic.

Terrific. Thanks. But ... There is no way to quantify one as being "the best".

Once guitarists reach the rank of God, there is no "best", just "different".
The only rank above "God" is "Legend", and you can only reach "Legend" once you die, notable exceptions being EVH and Clapton.
For Example - Mamlsteen = Neo-classical god Wylde = Southern Metal god Clapton = Classic Rock/Blues god/Legend SRV = Blues god/Legend
etc, etc, etc

Lynch is a bodybuilder too, so that makes him super cool. But greatest metal guitarist he is not.

More like this - too many to chose from. e.g.: I like the guitarist Gordon(Exploited) because his stuff is a treat - dense and efficient.

Malmsteen.
plays that clean and fast on a high actioned, single coiled, scalloped, 21 fretted, POS fender.
sure he's been replicated but he is the original.
