I remember when Richard Jones was the next big thing he was all over the magazines and people where saying he was the next mr o then he disappeared and nobody heard from him again.
Victor Martinez was the next big thing even ronnie coleman said this guy is going to be the next mr o after me, but with all the controversy in his personal life he could not get it together and there are many more like them its really sad when somebody fails to meet exceptions and never really push their talent to the limit.

Well, Martinez got beautifully screwed at the 07 'O (the fact he had a criminal record sure didn't help) and then got injured the next year and lost his momentum somehow. Dennis James was heavily hyped after his 4th placing in 2003. But the worst case might have been Fedorov.

That's easy: Victor Richards.
Hyped as the "uncrowned Mr. Olympia", which he called himself, before he even turned pro, he didn't even compete against the best of the NPC.
He used his dual citizenship to win the Nigeria national championship, which to my knowledge was never a pro qualifier prior to Richards entering it and hasn't been one since then.
Rich Gaspari beat him in a state-level show and he threw a fit. That lead many to believe that his not competing in the IFBB was due to his ego not being able to handle his losing to smaller but better-conditioned bodybuilders.

x2. He turned pro by winning the Mr Bungabunga, and proclaimed early nineties that he would be mr Olympia in the year 2000......

Two words: Alexander Federov
Federov at least competed on stage, and when he was in shape, he looked terrific. He simply bombed at the 2005 Olympia and wilted away after that. But, when he stood next to Coleman and Cutler at the 2003 Russian Grand Prix and next to Coleman in the 2004 Grand Prix, he was the real deal. Why he couldn't replicate that at the Olympia I don't know. Federov went toe-to-toe with the best in the world. Richards wouldn't even go against the best in the NPC; again, he lost to Gaspari at a local show and threw a fit.

Victor Richards was never an IFBB pro......period. But you are correct about the hype although he was obviously good at self promotion

Richards definitely had good genetics. Goes to show that genetics can only get you so far. Takes hard work, dedication and perseverance too. Federov was deinitely over-hyped. Had some pretty good mass, but not much else.

Federov competed head-to-head with them and he did well (at least in two shows, anyway). Granted, you can argue that, at the Olympia, there would be more quality bodybuilders between him, Cutler and Coleman. But, he did well against those two and beat several top 10 Olympia placers who were in that 2003 Grand Prix show.

Guess I need to see the pictures. I took a quick Google image search for Fedorov and the pics I saw didn't speak well for his physique. His record as a pro isn't all that impressive. He couldn't even win the Russian Grand Prix. You'd think he'd be a hometown favorite and would easily take first, no matter the competition. 2003 European Amateur Championships - IFBB, Super-HeavyWeight, 1st Grand Prix Russia - IFBB, 3rd 2004 Grand Prix Russia - IFBB, 2nd 2005 Olympia - IFBB, Did not place 2006 Grand Prix Austria - IFBB, 10th Grand Prix Holland - IFBB, 9th New York Pro Championships - IFBB, Did not place
