you missed it. 2 things before i explain. first is that i agree with you, lunatics will not be stopped. this guy will have found a way to get some murders done that night if not with a gun....but how many would have survived if it were a knife? the process is a lot more slower, and yes some will have been dead, but you have a better chance of (1) having less dead in that cinema and (2) if you were the one being attacked, have a better chance of fending off your attacker as opposed to someone taking aim at you with a gun from a distance away.

This is not the point I want to make and anyone wanting to compare knives to guns will get annihilated in this argument. Lets leave it there.

The point is, "guess the country." Why is everyone so good at this game when a headline like this is mentioned without anything said about which country it happened in? Why will someone be correct almost all the time? What's with that?

Even if gun ownership were not allowed in the USA, the criminals would all still have guns.

The border with Mexico and other South American countries smuggling the weapons in makes it easy. Also, criminals choose to use illegal weapons as they cannot be traced.

One has to look at the situation individually and not care compare it to the realities of one's own foreign country which has a different history, borders, neighbouring states etc.
