Islam - a god that punishes it's followers with starvation (Ramadam) and dictates what they eat, wear and whatever else.

Christ - a god that sees good causes, giving presents at easter and xmas. A celebration.

Abraham fasted.. moses fasted (remember on the mountain?). Jesus fasted. David and Solomon fasted... All the prophets fasted at one point or another. It is a tradition that we uphold.
