I'm married to a doctor. She says half of them are morons.
Ask her the reason why please. I am curious about it.

OMR, you are very mistaken in your belief that Internal Medicine is easy. I am currently board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. Thus, let us look at the schooling. Four years of college. No one year off, you can apply to medical school in your fourth year of college. I got in the top 5% on my MCAT and finished top quarter in my medical school. I obtained my M.D. in four years. Internal medicine for three years. I then did a nephrology fellowship for three years. General surgery is a dying field. Half the classes are not filled now a days, as surgeons get royally screwed once they graduate. Trust me, I know all the local surgeons and the vast majority are now hospital employees. CTS or cardiothoracic surgery usually is done post general surgery and is max 2 years unless you do a research year. Now neurosurgery is impressive. Seven years residency and that does not include a fellowship. Most neurosurgeons are damn near forty when they get out  ;D.  Anybody who gets through and passes their boards has worked hard. However, as has been surmised on the board, a large number of docs are social retards and generally not overly social people. The docs who are charming and intelligent do very well.

Agree with most of what you said, but the competitiveness of Gsurg has actually increased recently presumably due to the work hour restrictions in residency. I believe all spots are filled these days, and I'd be willing to bet the average USMLE of Gsurg is on par with or greater than IM. Still couldn't pay me a million bucks a year to do it, but just saying.

And, yeah, count me as one of those who doesn't believe "Dr Dutch" is a medical doctor. Never really cared, but the whole bit about teaching several nursing classes makes me suspect.

Well...this would be a first clou that you are not..... :-\

This year I'm doing a lot of classes for nursing school. These are 17-21 yr old girls (and a few males) who got a definite (caring) feminine side, and lots of 'm are hot as hell....

I'm a lot older (40s), but I am definitely the best build teacher (rest are pencil necks), and they notice this...

I know nothing should happen, but any of you got into this kinda stuff ?
?

Nico,

I still think internal medicine is the easiest of specialties.  You're essentially the triage person before most patients go off to see specialists.  Not to mention that it is also the easiest specialty to get into with only 8% of USA med school graduates going that route due to the low pay (national average starting pay for a hospitalist or internist is at 150k).  Do you have to keep up with new trends and emerging disease processes? Sure, but half the time you refer them to a specialist anyway.   Hence, why I assume you followed the nephro route.

Regarding education, I did pre-med prior to business, graduated top of my class, took the mcats (got a 38) and got accepted to all city/state schools, as well as 3 out of the 4 privates I applied to.  That part wasn't all that difficult.  I left that route to go do business, because I realized early on that you can make 3-5x as much as a doctor, without the intense responsibilities.  Top that off with the fact that you have thousands of Caribbean led school grads flooding the internal medicine residencies and I think you can imagine why I call it the easiest.

General surgery might be a dying breed, but that's because most if not all surgeons go off to do a speciality after the 5 year general surgery residency.  It's like asking an MD to just do internal medicine and forget about a more lucrative and exciting speciality after that 3 year residency.

Just my opinion though,
"1"

Doctor Dutch passed med school with flying colours, did 2 years residency at the local hospital as a general practitioner and then chose to specialise in awful jokes.

LMAO, damn cyp all this time I just thought I didn't get dutch humor. Now I know that doc is just not funny. Thanks for clearing that up for me.  ;)

I am a M.D. boarded in Internal Medicine and Neuro. I lift and have competed. You find most doctors can not find their way around a gym yet preach the importance of exercise to their patients. I think you might be surprised to find how many actual M.D.s get on this board to kick back and bullshit after busting ass on sick ass patients. The gym gives me time to mellow out and do something for myself. Besides the
patients and nurses  ;D get off on my body-- particularly the nurses!!! Don't know who Dr. Dutch is, but he sounds kind of dangerous?!! P.S. I attended Johns Hopkins, not some shit medical school like Dr. Dutch. Besides I am sure I get more muff and better ab workouts than Dr. Dutch-- punk ass!!!

Does anyone else find it really pretentious when non-medical doctors actually refer to themselves as Dr.?  Like, who are you trying to kid; how 'bout we call you schmoctor.  That's more like it.  If your "D" is not in "M", you're not really a doctor mmmkay.  I'm also aware of a few "honorary doctorate" recipients that also refer to themselves as "Dr." ::)
