Seems unlikely, in his docu soap(youtube) it came out that he was physically unfit to fight.
Maybe Derek's demise makes him  go Rocky on his body...

Did they go into any specifics?
I'm wondering if it's a heart issue.

the only medical issue with his fight was a certain kick he used to use in competition was causing trouble with his hip. The fight then clashed with the making of expendables 2 so he had a choice, get his face back on the big screen or prepare for the fight. Ex2 won out.
Heard nothing about a rescheduling.

As hench said, hip issues + they made the mri results or something out to be all drama.
He's a great guy but strange in the head and seems he boasted the option to fight to sooth his demons... the med stuff provided a gentle escape route that saved his face.

the fight would have ended badly for him

but he genuinely believed he could hold his own in there

props for that kind of self belief
