Well, it says in mens health that it hits the bis... and a wider under hand grip targets upper cehst.

I do it on the smith every once and a while, hits the tri pretty good, i would avoid going raelly heavy with it or it would give you wrist problems, i usually use it with a super set just to burn out the tris

a) it will never target your bis because your bis are not used to straighten the arm (don't hate, it's just physiology), you might feel it there but it's other forces in action

b) it might be an effective tri/chest exercise, but it sounds like a more effective way to break a noobs nose

c) if you read it in Men's Health some chick thought it up

It does not work the biceps.  The bicep is what makes you curl your arm in not out.  The only you would feel anything in your biceps is if you are going very slow and the biceps are being used to support the downward force of the weight.  That is the only way in the world you could feel in your biceps.  That pic looks like he is laying on his back on a cable machine and curling the weight to his chest.  That is working the biceps but it is not a bench press just because you are laying on your back.  Sorry but I doubt there is an article that says different and if there was it is totally unfounded.

I think you're mistaken...no matter what you may have read, there is no way a pressing movement works the biceps.  I do like the exercise. however.

If you keep the grip narrow its good for the triceps, about 4-8 inches off the chest.  Good motion, but to go heavy and work em you will need a spotter.

Peaking at 45 !!!

Listen, everyone agree's with you that it's in Men's Health...but that mag. is BULLSHIT and they may not have a clue what they're talking about!  I read it occasionally for their studies on foods and disease prevention etc.

There are only so many times they can tell you to do Med. Ball Woodchops that they decided to throw in a old school exercise with incorrect information.

Since this thread is still alive, I'll re-itterate what I posted earlier and add a little something from my gym conversations.  As far as I understand, this exercise isolates the inner tricep head that sits under your armpit and works it in the same fashion as a close grip bench, except  your pecs are kind of out of action since your wrists are pronated backwards.  Anyways that said when I do it it has a sticking point about 3inches higher than a common bench but you need a spotter to take the bar off and on because its a bear alone if you go with any kind of wieght.  You can do more than you think you can, its just in a different place.
