Socialism invariably ends up with everyone being poor because it doesn't capitalize on and even removes the number one thing driving people, egocentrism.

If Socialism worked...

There would be a ruling Elite that would never lose its wealth or power.

While people from the working class would never be able to rise to Elite status or achieve wealth by their effort or competence in any given field.

Socialism is regulations on private business. It is not taxation or welfare programs and it is not government ownership of industry.

Taxation and welfare programs are components of a social welfare state. Government ownership of industry is communism. Socialism is some different than those two things, althou you can mix the three if you want

If I'm not too mistaken, communism's goal is to to be rid of the government. Any stages prior to that goal weren't really supposed to be called "communism", in fact I think the Soviets referred their own state as socialism aiming for communism.

Socialism is regulations on private business. It is not taxation or welfare programs and it is not government ownership of industry.

socialism is an economic system in which the means of production are socially/co-operatively or state owned and goods and services are provided for direct use rather than for private profit.

regulations on private business are errr...regulations on private business, they exist to some degree in any economic system.

imo a system that balances capitalism and socialism works best. most enterprises are more productive when privately owned. but i believe certain areas like healthcare work better when state or co-operatively owned.

for instance in the US roughly 20% of gdp is spent annually on healthcare and you still have millions of people ineligible for care , whereas in most of europe we spend around half that figure on state run health services and everyone has cover.

Communism is government/public ownership of all industry and the abolishion of private property. Marx wasn't clear about what kind of bureaucracy be in place.    Socialism is a term used to describe a free market system with regulations to ensure socially responsible behavior in business

If you don't mind I'd like to see some source that backs your view. I don't claim to be an expert on this matter but a quick search gave me this for example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Communism

Communism is a political ideology that seeks to establish a future without social class or formalized state structure....// However, communism as a political goal generally is a conjectured form of future social organization which has never been implemented.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_purpose_of_communism

In its ideal form, social classes cease to exist, there is no coercive governmental structures, and everyone lives in abundance without supervision from a ruling class.

I can't stand this partisan bullshit, its all about idealizing a political system when in the end both are rather problematic.

Taxing is always wasteful, yet the rich leech off of society. It's pretty basic problem.

There really shouldn't be private property in an ideal society, and there shouldn't be a wasteful government in the way of productivity.

I'm posting on my phone..  Read Karl Marx communist manifesto. The essential and single trait of communism is the end of private property and the public ownership of industry. I am not sure but I don't think Marx says anything about government however there would need to be some organized public bureaucracy to rig industry and distribution.  What you quoted above, abolishion of hocenment' just sounds like anarchy.

Meh I don't care for ideology. Anyhow I think government regulation is the key. Can't stand all this freedom nonsense, so I ain't much of an anarachist.

Our society is run on some narcissistic view that humans can make rational unbiased decisions for themselves, when the reality is they simply can't. If this were so advertising would not exist.

It's either mob rule, or rule by some supposed superior human. In virtually every state in history this has been pretty much the case and neither is any good.

I am pro freedom and pro anarchy.  Well, a government would be good but only if it was only for military and welfare programs including education and infrastructure thoug the key ingredient would be that it gets its revenue fromFolintset donationz only and donors choose which program thair money goes too

No taxes no coercion. And leave criminal justice up to society to deal with in whatever way they are fit. The market for crime and punishment would balance itself out better than our legal system does
