My late grandfather never slept more than 4 or 5 hours a night. He wasn't a weight trainer but did physical work. He died at 95.
But I think he was one the few exceptions to the 6-9 hrs rule

if you train with intensity and weigh over 250 you probably need 9 hours of sleep a night
