Nowadays I cannot go to the gym more than once a week. Not beacuse I have no time - I am just simply tired after work, it's cold and dark outside, sometimes I have a headache, sometimes there is something good in the TV etc-etc. So even if a try to go more frequently, finally there is always a week between my workouts. So i train chest, shoulders, biceps one day, one week later back and tris, one week later chest etc. again. And legs... well maybe once a months. And I look the same as when I trained 3 times a week. I am a lifetime natural, so after all I am only hard, pumped, vascular when I am in the gym, so it doesn't matter... And at least I can be sure that my muscles regenerate.

Exercising at home, or at any place for that matter, is an option. Gymnast-style.

I forgot to add, I still drink 1-2 protein shakes EVERY day. Even 5-6 days after my last workout. Because I simply love it and maybe helps a bit not to lose muscle. And whey is good for health as well. Win-win!

I am in a philosphical mood so try this on for size:
if the body adapts to the overall workload
and the adaption is to handle load x
if you say workout 50 units of work 7 days a week
would it not be better to do 350 units fo work once per week, total marathong
then take 6 days of to recover?
then do agaain
the body would then have to adapt to 350 unit of work
and have tons of recovery time
has this been tried?

There's nothing wrong with one workout per week. You are totally recovered and mentally ready to resume training after a week off.

Just train your whole body on that day with core lifts like bench, deads, squats, clean and jerks and pull ups.

I will guess that you think that you look the same. The changes are gradual and then one day you realize that look a lot worse.
The key is push yourself, we are all tired after work. And yes it is cold and dark out but so what? I work out at 5:30 AM. You can DVR your shows or download them eztv.it
