When Flair first joined the Federation it was one of the best times of my life. Then when he teamed with Perfect to me it couldn't have gotten any better! But then it was all down hill from there. I think the guy did a great job but he's not one of the all time greats. The guy never carried the Federation. I continually hear about his days in the other wrestling organizations and how great he was. So if he was that great, was he past his prime once he joined the Federation?

To be honest man Flair imo never had a prime, He could never bump for shit, Constantly had better athletes than him putting him over when it should have been vice versa...... I have never been able to stand flair, And now he's selling phone calls? WTF Flair?

Sure he could tell a story in the ring...

THAT'S the most important aspect!

And, he did it among the best of anyone else in the business with the skills he had. It didn't matter if he couldn't or wouldn't take bigger bumps; he didn't have to. There are guys who did crazier shit, but it never had anywhere near the meaning of Flair's ring work.

Undertaker's suicide dive isn't anything spectacular compared with the trampoline acts done by RVD, the Hardee's, Sabu, etc., but Taker gives his spot just as much - if not more - meaning the one night per year he does it.

Ric's work held up then, and continues to hold up today, because of who he is. Somebody new would not likely get the same mileage out of any of Ric's material. That's an impressive accomplishment!

I know story telling is a VERY important part of being a great Professional Wrestler but i just never seen Ric as one of the greatest of all time, I respect him for what he has done, Still i just cant get the fascination with him......and never will.

If you like him then good for you but he ( For some reason ) has always annoyed the hell outta me....idk man

Now nobody can cut a decent promo, zero ring psychology and a revolving door on non entertaining turds.  With VERY few exceptions.

Really like 4/5.  Hennig, HBK and Savage certainly in my top 10. Really dont care about Edge at all.

It is interesting with Roberts as imo he is very similar to Flair.   Great promos, no big bumps and a master ring psychologist.  I can remember in Mid- Atlantic when he turned heel.  Prior to that he was a half cowboy running around knee lifting everybody.  By far his best work was in Florida with Sullivan. Thats when the darker side emerged.  WWF stuff was weak by comparison.

Its funny how we can all overlook issues with "our guys". For example you mentioned the backstage stuff with Flair compared to Hogan, yet HBK is on your list. Who is probably the worst there has ever been.  Lol.

Hey i didnt say that HBK was in my top 5 for his personality back stage lol, As for Roberts i always really liked him while growing up especially his stuff with Savage They had some really good matches, unlike flair he could actually bump. I dont care if they ever took huge bumps or anything just if they could bump good at all " Flair never took a decent bump until his late stuff in wwe " As for Edge, He was a very innovative talent one of the best WWE has had in recent memory.....Every title reign was full of classic heel controversy in one way or another accept his win over Ziggler, His promos werent the best but always VERY entertaining.

I dont think i have to explain Savage OR Hennig lol

Rick Rude was a very close top 5 for me i almost listed him but i just remember more from Roberts.

Really like Rude too.  He was a great tt with Manny Fernandez in the NWA.

I really dont see any difference in the bumps Flair took compared to Roberts.  Flair was routinely press slammed, etc... which at the time was a "big" bump.  He took whatever the finishers were at the time. Not to mention being one of the best juicers ever.

idk man i just never saw Flair ever take a decent bump in all the matches ive seen of his.....Maybe i missed something? Just never got him, Maybe its just one of those things that for no reason at all i just cant stand the guy, Besides him being so self absorbed to try and sell phone call recordings doesnt exactly help my image of the guy lol....

If you are only looking for guys who arent self absorbed you might want a different sport. Lol.

I  am probably biased because I really dont care about how big a bump someone can take.  To me it isnt who is the best stuntman.  I will take a guy who can tell a story in the ring over everytjing else.

I can deal with self absorbed guys in the sport " Steiner " is one of my favorites lol, But i seriously just plain flat out cannot stand Flair and never have been able to....I would say it might be because he's from older days in the sport but there are so many from that time that i like.

And by taking bumps im not saying he cant because he didnt fall 20 feet from a ladder through a table to the floor or anything but ive just never seen him even take a decent bump just from his feet to the canvas. Guys dont get me wrong i RESPECT Flair for what he's done and where he's been but he's just not one of the all time greats in my eyes.

Not that this is any marker for who makes a "top 5" list, but Flair routinely took slams from the top turnbuckle. It was one of his regular spots.

Not even a decent bump?  I am really not following. He took every finisher/spot during his era that any other wrestler of that time did. A ton of press slams from Sting, Luger, Warriors, etc...  And I do have to say suffering a broken back and was still willing to do it.

It is just interesting to me that someone who is obviously a more serious fan would dislike Flair.  One thing I will say is that you are a bit younger than me and most likely only remember Flair after 1990 or so.  His work in the 90's and later was a shadow on the 70's and especially mid 80's.

flair was taking that top rope bump till just a few years ago in his TNA stint.jerry  lawler's  recent near death experience is said to have opened ric flair's eyes about future matches.
