The kid being diagnosed and locked up in an asylum.  :D
Which isn't really gun control at all.

True.  That's more of a mental health issue.

Whether of not the son had been diagnosed with any mental problems  (the information Shockwave mentioned isn't really reliable) is still a matter of debate, but one would be limiting gun access to those with severe mental problems living in their household.

I think guns should be treated like driver's licenses:  easy to get, you need a permit, there should be some training (at least for handguns).  So, I can see an argument for ensuring people are competent before they can access guns.  But regulating the household of a person with no mental illnesses?  Sounds pretty tough to enforce.

Also, what's the difference between a person with severe mental problems and a young kid living in the house?

Most psychosis manifests itself through violent behaviour. I don't think that's true of youth in general.

I don't know if that's true or not, but let's assume it is.  A nine-year-old having access to guns is still pretty dangerous.

Are you talking about precluding someone from owning guns or from keeping them in their house if they have a person living with them who has a severe mental disability?

A nine-year old with a gun can be dangerous, but children I don't remember any nine- year olds going on shooting rampages.

You've never heard of kids killing people with guns?  I've never looked at the statistics, but there are probably more people who have been shot, either intentionally or accidentally, by kids than people with a severe mental illness who went on a shooting rampage.

Exactly!

Kids kill people. That why we need to make sure all the other kids is armed so they can protect themselves.

More guns is the answer.

That isn't what I meant- just that most of the spree killers have been older. But you're right, statistics would probably show that more kids kill. So maybe that's an argument for stronger gun control measures in regards to children.

It's actually an argument that trying to restrict a competent, lawful gun owner from possessing guns in their own home, based on who lives with them, is problematic.
