Yes - but their official PR image that they project is overworked and underpaid. But they are OVER PAID.
sorry, my mom taught for 42 yrs. overpaid, please.
She wasn't a computer science teacher who had very little to teach. But taught math and English. She has taught elementary and middle school, GED classes and others.
And and believes in discipline and structure, which is what many of today's kids lack due to their parents not being parents. Today's teachers make little compared to what they'd be making if they chose another avenue.
And get this, if the little screw-ups don't want to learn, it's the teachers fault! Teachers today are expected to give grades, the children are not expected to earn grades.
There is a reason why there is a need for good teachers these days---few want to go into it, knowing that they will not make that much money, and have to deal with terrible kids, who have even worse parents, who expect their kids to be above average and get straight As, all while doing sports, musical instruments, dance, and acting lessons. So, what type of teachers do you get? The ones like above, the lazy ass ones.
And get this, you get three months off, oh boy.
I've seen guys who were in Vietnam and Desert Storm lose control of a class. And these were suburban kids. Now you go teach English, Social Studies, Math, etc, and not an elective like Computer Science, and see what you really get.
