Either one wants to save lives or not. Statistically more kids die in bathtubs than from guns. Why would you be against banning tubs? You will save more kids.

Almost every state in the union has some sort of fireworks restriction. Some states, like the state you and I live in and where you practice law, have outright bans.

All of these acts of violence against kids in schools...

Why don't they just ban schools?

There are not 30k fatalities from gun deaths each year.
Gun Related fatalities = Homocide, Suicide, Unintentional and Undetermined Cause = Average well over 30,000 gun related fatalities per year.

More people die in a 5 day period from gun related incidents than they do a whole year from incidents involving bathtubs, hot tubs and spas combined.   Statistically, you are wrong 99.9% of the time.

seems like a gun is a good way to kill people quickly

yourself or others

the problem is that we need to find a way to get these particular people to ONLY use guns to kill themselves

I'm sure we can all agree on that and it's a gun centric solution

then you'd need a policeman in every house in the country... would require a 'small' change in the income tax rates...

I think we need government to ban anything that could hurt us.  We need to be protected from ourselves.

kinda sad that they kill anyone don't you think?

suicide rate in the US isn't insanely high but it's weird to see how many suicides are due to such a violent means

That makes sense, fireworks are dangerous, semi automatic assault weapons are not.

MINNEAPOLIS — Three people are accused of killing a man in Minneapolis by jumping on and beating him. The Star Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/YGQzH1) police say that witnesses reported seeing three males taking turns jumping from a retaining wall onto Kerry Duane Scott's chest and abdomen “like a trampoline” on Nov. 17. Officers found Scott bleeding from the head and paramedics pronounced him dead.

YES!

I remember when a concrete retaining wall here toppled over behind tons of mud killing three kids waiting for the bus.

We got along fine back when we had hills instead of these dangerous walls.

It's too bad we can ban stupidity because I've seen more of it from the gun lovers than is usual for most topics on this board

someone starts a thread about banning high capacity clips and the gun nuts respond with the following conflated nonsense

1.  Why do you want to ban guns (no one is talking about banning all guns)

2.  If you ban guns (again, no one is even saying that) then they will just find something else to use (more bs - if there was something as effective they would have used it in the first place)

3.  Why do you think new laws will suddenly turn insane nutbags into "docile critters" ( this is by far the dumbest response yet)

4.  Why don't we ban bathtubs, cars, etc... as if these objects can be used to commit mass murder in a matter of minutes

The outpouring of stupidity from right wingers on this board on this particular topic is just unbelievable

The debate is getting a little stupid on both sides but it's not a bad point to say that a person who has set their mind on killing a lot of people can easily find a way to do it even if they don't have access to guns.  Would you feel better if the idiot had drove a truck into the school filled with gasoline and a way to ignite it on impact?  There's a zillion easy ways crazies can sit around and come up with if that's what they're going to do.  Why not look at what makes people do shit like this?  Why is it more important to talk about gun control than it is to talk about what effect the drugs these guys are on has?  There's a lot of shit to talk about here but the left just wants to make it about gun control ::) That's fucked up.
