British Actors playing American Roles in TV/Hollywood
« on: January 10, 2013, 07:19:45 PM »
What's going on. Why are directors importing these pesky Brits to play Americans instead of using home grown talent?

I mean the upcoming Oscars. Daniel Day Lewis is the heavy favourite to win. A Brit Playing an American president.

Look at the TV Shows/Movies. Dominated by Brits. This is just a very quick list.

Homeland -

Sgt Brody - Damian Lewis

CIA head David Estes - David Harewood

CIA analyst Peter Quinn - Rupert Friend

Roya Hammad - Zuleikha Robinson

The Walking Dead

Rick Grimes - Andrew Lincoln

House M.D

House - Hugh Laurie

The Wire

Stringer Bell - Idris Elba

McNulty - Dominic West

Mayor Carcetti. Aiden Gillen

The Dark Knight Rises

Batman - Christian Bale

Bane - Tom Hardy

Superman (2013)

Superman - Henry Cavill

True Blood

Bill compton - Steven Moyer

It shows that we arent racist. It also shows that thete are some damn good British actors. It has to be hard for them to pretend an American accent.

Idk I have always thought the Brit actors seem to pull of an American accent easily. On the other hand it's embarrassing when a Yank tries the British accent.

It's pretty much the talent that gets the gig.  British actors have scored some noted roles, but they're greatly in the minority.

Who knew this this guy on The Mentalist was Welsh?

She's not British but this sultry Aussie actress is doing well for herself in Hollywood.

You mean nationalist: Only hiring Americans for the accent.

There are plenty more in current and past movies and tv shows. The Mentalist himself for instance is Aussie: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0048932/

Most of the cast of Without A Trace were either British or Australian.

The opposite happens once in a while too. Peter Dinklage is an American using a British accent on Game of Thrones: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0227759/?ref_=sr_1

I'm a getbigger, so of course I've dated her.  Only woman I enjoy the company of more would be Elisha Cuthbert.

Daniel Day Lewis is a badass actor.

I agree , has to be the best right now , his performance in Lincoln was Oscar material and I don't think of anyone who could have done better. Although Liam was supposed to do it originally I don't think he would have come close

Bale is Aussie I think, but I've been ranting about this for years.  Every TV show has to have a british host, they hire a shitload of brits to play american roles.  I don't get it.  I think the only reason is that behind the Jew Hollywood, the Brits create a lot of their own movies, scripts and shows that the US copies.

The USA pretty much got every reality show from the brits or aussies.  Idol, Big brother, survivor etc...  same as a lot of TV shows.  Possibly giving roles to brits is part of the deal to bring the shows here.

I`m pretty sure that wouldn`t pass to most british.

Anyhow`s the american accent is easy to fake, you just need to flatten your speak patterns, also pressing your lips to make more restrictive speak works as well.

Truth be told the american accent is super flexible.

Anyhow hollywood`s target audience is no longer america, it`s international, which is why dialogue in movies has gotten simpler and why it`s always good to have euro`s in big budget films.
