I think if a president makes a great enough contribution to the country then we should honor them with some sort of gesture whatever it is.
That being said obama has not done anything worth even considering such a gesture and I would think that even his most ardent supporters would agree.
George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln certainly have their place in americant history...
George Washington: Con Artist"George Washington was a savvy businessman that was able to finagle obscene amounts of money from the early United States. Most people know that Washington was our first commanding general and that he refused to take any pay for his service during the Revolutionary War. What they don't like to tell you is that all he asked for is to be compensated for any expenses that he might incur. What was a $12,000 a year salary turned out to be $62,500 a year! And you thought big government spending was a modern invention?"
Thomas Jefferson: Infidel"Jefferson’s minimalist approach to the Gospels reveals an attitude that he disclosed only privately, just months before his death: “I am of a sect by myself, as far as I know." In that sense, Jefferson the politician wouldn't have stood a chance in the current presidential race, where faith and piety are on constant display. The political process might be more open today to candidates of varying degrees and types of belief if The Jefferson Bible were more central to the nation’s history. The Jefferson Bible opens a window on Jefferson’s struggle to find a faith with which he could finally come to terms. It was this kind of intimate, inner search – not the outward pronouncement and establishment of religious doctrine – that the man who helped shape modern religious liberty sought to protect in America."
Theodore Roosevelt: Socialist"In appealing to the folks in Osawatomie, Roosevelt went well beyond the program he had pursued in office, proposing a powerful national government strong enough to address many of its citizens’ problems. In this new regime, government would be a general antidote to corporate power. Federal programs would control wages and hours, health, and corporate governance. The government would take over utilities and railroads if necessary to stop monopolies. Corporate political contributions would be limited and publicly reported. Most radically, this vastly empowered national government would transform America’s economy to reward only merit, using graduated estate and income taxes to pull down the fortunes of the very rich."
Abraham Lincoln: devil worshiper"Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, had four sons. The oldest, Robert, was the only son to reach age 19. Lincoln and his wife were so distraught after their 11-year-old son Willie died from fever in 1862 that they held séances in the White House in an effort to speak with their dead son. Lincoln was deeply interested in many sorts of psychic phenomenon. Lincoln even reported being present at a séance in which a piano mysteriously floated around a room. Mediums who worked with Lincoln stated that he held extraordinary psychic powers."
