Doesnt lie about lifting.

« on: January 24, 2013, 12:39:06 PM »

Why shouldnt we limit cigarettes to 10 a pack?

Why does anyone need 20 in one pack? 20 is really harmful no one needs that many right?

Further - why should anyone be able to stockpile cartons of cigarettes knowing how harmful they are?  Maybe if we limit purchases of one pack per week per person we can ward off excessive consumption of these harmful and dangerous products that serve no purpose useful to society and humans.

We also need background checks on those buying cigarettes since those already in bad health are contributing to the lack of fitness and rising health care costs in the society.

We also need a national database so we can know who is smoking and encourage those who do register to smoke to quit since it will be better for everyone.

Smoking kills tens of thousands a year and now is the time to stop the carnage.

Senseless killing!

People aren't responsible enough to know what's good for them.  Big tobacco is killing innocent people.

ATF can use the same database for gun owners and instead of the NICS check we currently have for guns we can have a new call in for stores called the NICOTINE Check system for those buying cigs and some govt employee can look over that persons' health record and see if its ok if they buy cigarettes.

Ban Hi Cap Cartons now!

A smoker can only smoke one cigarette at a time and does not need access to 200 cigarettes at a time.

I think you're just potentially giving them ideas with this.  They might just put extremely high taxes on the sale of guns like they have on cigs.

what exactly are you referring to?

here is what I said we should start with:

we can start with the ones that have large support among NRA members and go from there

Here is a poll from July 2012 (and conducted by Frank Luntz)

http://www.mayorsagainstillegalguns.org/downloads/pdf/poll-07-24-2012.pdf

• 74 percent of NRA members and 87 percent of non-NRA gun owners support requiring criminal background checks of anyone purchasing a gun.
• 79 percent of NRA members and 80 percent of non-NRA gun owners support requiring gun retailers to perform background checks on all employees - a measure recently endorsed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms industry.

• 75 percent of NRA members believe concealed carry permits should only be granted to applicants who have not committed any violent misdemeanors, including assault.

• 74 percent of NRA members believe permits should only be granted to applicants who have completed gun safety training.

• 68 percent of NRA members believe permits should only be granted to applicants who do not have prior arrests for domestic violence.

• 63 percent of NRA members believe permits should only be granted to applicants 21 years of age or older.

• The NRA rank and file also supports barring people on terror watch lists from buying guns (71 percent) and believe the law should require gun owners to alert police to lost and stolen guns (64 percent). The NRA's Washington office strongly opposes both measures

Who said anything about guns?

so this is not another lame attempt to conflate gun violence with some other non-related issue like hammers, swimming pools and cars ?

here is what I said we should start with:

and you feel that an "assault weapons" ban is a valid piece of legislation as well.

again its no different than the stupidity your pushing either.

yes your pushing things not related to banning any types of guns but lets not be ignorant here and say youre not for banning certain types of guns if not all guns.

Smokers may not be able to afford ‘Obamacare’
The Seattle Times / The Associated Press ^ | January 24, 2013 | Ricardo Alonzo-Zaldivar
Posted on January 25, 2013 2:25:58 AM EST by 2ndDivisionVet

Millions of smokers could be priced out of health insurance because of tobacco penalties in President Obama’s health-care law, according to experts who are teasing out the potential impact of a little-noted provision in the massive legislation.

The Affordable Care Act — or “Obamacare” — allows health insurers to charge smokers buying individual policies up to 50 percent higher premiums starting next Jan. 1.

For a 55-year-old smoker, the penalty could reach nearly $4,250 a year...

I'm surprised that many would be on board for  the terror watch list.  I don't know anybody who really knows how a name gets on there, how would you get your name off, etc.  Linking to NS lists is foolish.

what's an NS list?

the link I provided was conducted by a Republican pollster of gun owners (both NRA members and non-NRA members)
