Prior to that, the Christian church never had a "future tribulation" or even a "rapture" interpretation of Scripture. What does that mean? Well, a few thousand years of Christian scholars and teachers didn't see it in any text whatsoever. Reading Revelation, in context, does not produce a "Tribulation" or "Rapture" understanding.
