my best bench ever was in high school I did close grip hands like 4 inches apart  275 for 3......and i was on ALOT of shit. bodybuilding training aka training for hypertrophy will hurt your strength, you do not  train the CNS...i doubt i could throw up 350 in  for a single these days..and i dont give a fuck. i always got my best size gains in the 12-20 rep range....heavy weights got me nowhere.

i think raw strenght has more to do with cns ability to flex muscle really hard and joint leverage than with muscle mass.

the drug halotestin is testament to that, it makes one smaller compared to a test user, but stronger.

on such drugs, can squeeze and flex the muscle harder, i dont know why, but theres something to it.

and yes, bodybuilding training will definitely not get out the best strenght numbers out of people.

mind your rotator cuffs Cheesy

being bloated helps a ton with the bench, all that water pressure inside your muscles is like a spring when you lower the weight. i never was strong when lean even on big doses of tren, mast, winny at bench. being under 10% just kills my strength and ego in the gym. i could bench 455 with good form as a fat anadrol sloth but never close to that when looking human

why do you bench at all as a bodybuilder? I switched to DBs because my rotators are fcked and im pain free now (unless I get stupid and decide to do BB again)

I turn the db's in so they're close to 45 degrees and it doesnt hurt my RC's at all.. its the fixed hand position on the BB and the turned out grip that makes it dangerous for your RCs

also being limited to lighter weight is good, you can only lift what you get into position safely so theres a good reason not to go ego-heavy on them and do 10+ rep sets

much safer than benching 315+ by yourself

Before chest or shoulders I do them. I agree with bench being worthless but only if you're over 6' tall

yeah i do 160 reps of rotator cuff warmups before each workout, many people forget, especially as you get older how the inner strength of the shoulder muscles is key to staying injury free, or should i say helping stay injury free in shoulder cap

Your wife and mom have cocks? Wink

I don't have a wife.  I do have a serious girlfriend, and she has no cock.  I don't think my mom does, either, but I'm not about to ask or look  Embarrassed

He's just teasing Jeff Smiley  Par for the course here.

Curious:  when you say you do "pec deck 'crunches'," does that mean you're doing anything other than, you know, just using the pec deck?  Moreover, what kind of pec deck are you using?  The dorky modern sort that emulates a fly motion, or the one where you can put your elbows (or hands) on pads?

The latter are easily superior IMO.  I know Dante Trudell catches a ton of shit on here, but he's very fond of the old style pad pec deck for bringing lagging chests up.  I'm sure you can find his variation on Youtube; suffice to say, I train quasi-DC style, and I've used that movement in my training.  It feels amazing, and it's one of those exercises where you think you're about to hit failure, but if you keep pushing as hard as you can, you'll find a hard 10th rep will yield to an 11th, 12th and, who knows?  Maybe 16-18 plus.

I think that's one of the things about the exercise that makes it so effective:  after a point, pretty much EVERY rep is a battle, but somehow, you can keep churning them out.  That it places such stress on the stretched position AND fully contracted position probably does not hurt.

The latter, I used the word "crunch" to differentiate from the flying motion of the other machine.
Pec decks are great, no worries about shoulders and arms failing first.
Its a great movement and burns like no other exercise.

hey i got question on the pec deck crunches, whats your arm position(elbows and angle) and do you keep the shoulders always locked back?
Elbows around low peck level arms 90 degrees
Shoulders come in on last few reps.

People say you cant get big muscles without compound movements, its bollocks, the muscle doesn't know what exercise its doing it just knows it fails at some point.
A bicep contracts and moves the hand to the shoulder, does it matter if it does it with a cable or a barbell?
