Are you suppose to hold the bar off your body, or bend slightly frontwards so it hangs away a little bit?  If I do heavy barbell shrugs, it's hard for me to keep the bar from rubbing up against my penis.   Huh

Bend your knees and lean forward slightly. You get a better ROM this way and avoid genital injury.

i like the fatter grip and the way that the weight hangs a bit lower than the dumbbell version
