Even worse ... within the film industry, and due to the exigencies and particular needs of the industry, it is exempt from much legislation barring discrimination on the basic of sex, age, race etc., for very legitimate reasons, ...and sadly, this much needed exemption can, and is often exploited for reasons completely different from the reasons the legislation was put in place to begin with. I've never kept track.  I was thinking along the lines of some of the more notable fuckups that I remember getting fired.  And I can remember several that were replaced with a white person.  I can tell you the last one was replaced with an Asian male.

Mind you, it is not always intentional, but it can & often is effectively that.

Many who are unintentionally guilty of it have become more aware of what they were doing, and have been pro-active in trying to stop the practice. But it DOES occur far too frequently.

I can't tell you how many times I've gotten last minute auditions where it's "Can you get to the studio in an hour" or panicked calls from casting directors going "Oh shit, we forgot to include ethnics... how many Black / Chinese / Indian actors can you send to the studio within the next hour?" So we end up with Black women auditioning to play the biological Mothers in commercial, with no Black kids to audition with.

Alot of "minority" actors get pissed off when this occurs, when they are called in to audition to play the role of a parent to a child that has clearly already been chosen, ...but I never let it get to me. I just used it as an opportunity to shine. Most professional actors know their future jobs come from past auditions, ...and rarely from the ones they do today. Turn lemons into lemonade.

It's a tricky situation, because due to the exigencies of story telling in 22 minutes, ...one has to convey the message instantaneously. There is very little time for character development so producers, directors, casting personnel, even actors rely on stereotypes and caricatures. These get embedded within the subconscious not only of the audiences who watch, ...but also the very people all throughout "the creative process"

If the losers in this thread spent half as much time doing something productive with their lives instead of bitching about how white people get all of the good acting jobs or how white people get along with the staff of best buy because of their race, the fantasy of "white privilege" would immediately disappear into obscurity.

You'll need to back that up with some proof.  For certain roles like Lincoln, of course that's the case.  For completely fictional roles, that wouldn't be white privilege, it would be flat out discrimination and racism.  And without proof, I don't buy that claim for a minute.

What kind of proof would you need? And why do you think it's limited to roles like Lincoln? Why don't you think it extends to roles like Harry Potter and Tony Stark and Thor and any of the Avengers and the Twilight vampires  or James Bond? The most successful  movie currently in the top ten is "Oz:Great and Powerful". There were racial minorities in the film(in minor roles), but considering  the story was inspired by preexisting material and featured preexisting characters, I doubt any black actresses were auditioned for any of the female leads (all played by white actresses). I don't know if you watch Game of Thrones, but it's an immensely popular show filmed on an epic scale and it is not cast colorblind.
Another HBO show, "Girls", has received a lot of criticism because it takes place in an area of New York in which the population is less than 30% white, yet during the first season, virtually every role on the show was played by a white person. The show's star/creator (who is white) has been very publicly contrite and that might account for some of the unusually open reflections she's had about the racial make up of the show:

This reminds me of something I read about the actress Gwyneth Paltrow. She gave an interview a few years ago where the interviewer asked her why there was so much animosity directed towards her on the internet. Her answer was basically people were jealous of her life and didn't understand that she worked damn hard
for everything she got. This is a woman whose father was a successful producer, whose mother was a well-known actress and whose family was so close to Steven Spielberg that she called him "uncle" and he cast her in her first film role when she was a teenager. I don't doubt she made the most of her opportunities, but the answer she gave in that interview implied that she considers herself a self-made success.
