i saw an old ironmind video tape
"bulgarian training hall"
with a lot of legends (mostly dwarfs stacking plates all over the bar)
a lot of them squatted monster weights down in nearly slow motion, full pause at the bottom and exploded up
this seems more sensible to me
but it is definitely common among elite weightlifters do do them suicide squats like in the OP
they say it trains them to use the bar whip... but at what cost....
