North Korea Army: 'War Could Break Out Today'

North Korea's army says it has approval to attack the US as America moves a missile defence system to Guam.

The North Korean military says it has ratified a "merciless" attack against the United States, potentially involving a "cutting-edge" nuclear strike.

"The moment of explosion is approaching fast," the army said in a statement on state news agency KCNA.

War could break out "today or tomorrow," the statement said, quoting a spokesman for the General Staff of the Korean People's Army.

"The merciless operation of (our) revolutionary armed forces in this regard has been finally examined and ratified.

"The US had better ponder over the prevailing grave situation."

This story is obviously a misprint.

I was told that when Obama was elected he was going to be so respected by the world that he would charm our enemies into playing nice.  His super intellect and his brilliant new plan to "talk" with them was supposed to keep them from doing stuff like this.  If it is true I'm certain that it is George W. Bush's fault.

Clearly the tubby smurf is just too dumb to fully apprectiate Obama's superior intellect, otherwise he would yield to Obama, purely out of respect for his incredible mind.

Maybe he is just a racist like the rest of us who oppose Obama?

obama will cave, just like bush.   He will bribe them to stop their rowdiness.  Watch and see.  Talk tough, then punk out and bribe them with a million barrels of oil.  Bush didn't have the balls to straighten out an enemy that was literally FIRING FUCKIN ROCKETS at us because.... well... the rockets cannot hit us (yet).

How insane is that?  Suppose we just let all the terrorists go because "He tried to set off a bomb, but he's terrible and building bombs haha, let's bribe him with a steak dinner to cut out those antics".

Bush failed to deal with it, wimped out... and Obama will too.

Report: U.S. backing off shows of force against North Korea for fear of what Kim might do (O Blinks)
 Hotair ^ | 04/04/2013 | AllahPundit

Posted on Thursday, April 04, 2013 11:36:33 AM by SeekAndFind

This isn't merely a failure of nerve, it's a failure of intelligence and a failure to keep operational secrets. The White House had a "playbook," agreed to by O, Hagel, and John Kerry, on how to rattle its saber at North Korea during the next crisis without rattling it so much that NK would get spooked and do something rash. E.g., first comes some B-52 flights over South Korea, then the B-2s make a cameo, then the F-22s, and so forth. Problem one: Kim's gone further in his bellicosity than U.S. analysts expected and now they’re unsure if they know where his personal red line is. Problem two: The deployment of two destroyers last weekend to the Pacific wasn’t part of the “playbook” and wasn’t supposed to be publicized. That was a bona fide strategic move, not a show of muscle-flexing designed for North Korean and international consumption. But then the news leaked and the Navy confirmed it, which turned the deployment into an inadvertent, potentially war-sparking audible.

One screw-up on top of another, so now it’s time to cool things off before someone gets nuked.

Officials said publicizing the destroyers risked ratcheting up tensions with the North more than the White House had intended. Likewise, they said, White House officials became upset because the disclosure wasn’t in keeping with the orchestrated rollout it had sought to control.

The White House has put the next steps in the playbook on hold while it assesses the North’s posture, officials say, though the administration hasn’t ruled out future shows of force. On Tuesday, Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said the U.S. wanted to lower the “temperature” on the peninsula…

[W]ithin the administration, some officials voiced concern about unintended consequences of provoking North Korea [by following an escalation "playbook"]. Some of these officials questioned the faith the White House and Pentagon placed in the intelligence agencies, which have a mixed record of predicting North Korean behavior.

However, few objections were raised at the highest levels during the meetings, according to participants—unlike in other Obama administration deliberations about using military force abroad, including Libya, Northwest Africa and Syria, that have been marked by protracted debates. President Barack Obama gave the green light to proceed with the playbook, these people said.

The unspoken risk: What’s the effect on Kim’s already unpredictable behavior now that he knows the U.S. is willing to tear up its “playbook” for fear of pushing him too far? Does that encourage him to be bolder? Or is this Journal story the White House’s way of making it easier for him to climb down? The WSJ’s sources are “U.S. officials” — important ones too, if they’re privy to what went on during meetings “at the highest levels.” Could be that Obama wanted this leaked as an olive branch to NK: The U.S. will eat shinola publicly for having been a little too aggressive towards Kim, whereupon Kim can declare moral victory and step back from the brink with South Korea. It’s a way to let him save face while retreating. “Look how the Americans tremble!” We’ll see if North Korea’s propaganda mill has any fun with it today. They sure have been having fun lately.

Exit question: How long before China instigates a coup to put someone in the North Korean military who’s more predictable in charge?

What happens when the North levels Seoul with its artillery, chems our guys etc? Will Barry actually do something...alot of people will die, it won't be Iraq. Barry will have to actually make a real "gutsy" call as China will be involved in some way. I'm so glad u liberal douchbags re-elected this guy because he's exactly who you want in the White House during a real crisis. I suspect he'll be hiding under his desk.

that's the problem, thousands of artillery pieces in hardened bunkers.  but, that's the end of NK if it gets that far and China will have to play ball with the international community or lose politically for decades.

As much as i do not like OB, One thing i am not to worried about is OB's nerves in this matter.

I wouldn't normally worry about it either, I'd assume that the SecDec and the JCS' would help push him in the right direction..
But after he booted Chaos out because he was expressing an opinion that Obama didn't like, kinda makes me wonder if he actually gives a shit about the people in place to advise him, or if he just tunes them out/replaces them with people that tell him what he wants to hear.

That's common everywhere.  The higher you go the more you hear that.  I am not trying to say what actually happen because few would ever really know.  Suskinds book seem to paint a different picture, but again who knows.  I do know this for sure, if there are large economic interests at stake we will go to war regardless of who's POTUS.

Economics  are key here as both SK and Japan will be effected. Having taken part in the various war games there since 2001 if things kick off you can expect a few things. Its going to be hard for the North to mass troops and then attack. They have alot pushed south toward the border so thats what they're gonna have to go with. They will use chemical weapons...at that point your already committing suicide so what the hell. They will hit our bases in Guam, Japan and elsewhere with their large SF capability. They expect to take or  seal off Seoul and then appeal  to the UN for a cease fire and see what they can get. The US forces are the UN representative force on the Peninsual responsible for administering the cease fire. Should the North begin to loose quickly you could expect China to invade NK to establish a buffer zone to deal with the refugees. If the North fights until the end it could take almost 3 months of combat to take the capital and years of occupation to rebuild the country. We're rapidly approaching historically the worst things have gotten since 1976 (tree chopping incident). Some indicators of our intentions...more carriers sent...more airwings etc. Further, the 3rd Marine Division on Okinawa is not a true division like the 1st and second. It has to be reconstituted from rotational units and bulked up. If the DOD starts to do this along with stateside units for 2ID (Army - FT Lewis and Alaska) things are going badly. The North can only bluff so much and I think they're running out of room. China just sort of told them to go piss off..............

Thanks for this.

Looks like the RIF was a great idea again.   ::)

if anyone thinks starting a war is the best option you are an idiot.

everything but war should be tried first, talking, cuddling, bribery etc. Millions of innocent people dying for some stupid fucking reason again isn't kosher.

I don't like war - in fact I despise it and think it should be avoided whenever possible; but not at all costs. The fact is that millions of innocent people have already died in North Korea because of the string of insane leaders and the hopeless political system they've adopted. If those same leaders choose to escalate the current situation further, and be belligerent and aggressive and threaten us with war, then the best thing we can do for the North Koreans (and, really, the world) is to bring overwhelming force (say, a single aircraft carrier with a skeleton crew) and squash Fatty and his "army" of midgets.

Of course, the question would then become "and now what?" It's hard to imagine that China would be OK with South Korea absorbing the North's territory into a new "Korea".

Sure, not at all costs, if that cost is losing one's life. Otherwise I think diplomatic ends are always best. I may not have agreed 60 years ago, but the nuclear climate today dictates that more then just human life could be lost in war. Fallout amongst other things should war break out would probably be more deadly over the long term.

I agree with the covert option, I just don't know how feasible it would be, it is certainly the best option for everyone. Retaliation would concern me though.

China would push in from there side and set up a buffer zone, they will have to deal with a refugee crisis as soon as the rounds start falling.

To the leadership war may be the only option.

Or sabre rattling may be the only option.

He's posturing.  He won't do shit.  I bet all it takes is for some country to arm NK's residents and promise them food and opportunities and they would take care of half the problem right away.
