Yea he's injury prone because 340lbs guys aren't mean to jump 5ft in the air on a frequent basis.  He would be better off with less muscle actually.  However he could get to a lower body fat without losing muscle and be at a light enough weight.

Shaq needs to lose fat, not weight.  If he was in shape and lean at the same weight Riley would not have a problem with him (in my opinion).

More effective when combining size with mobility and athleticism. Being big without being able to move is fairly useless unless you're a noseguard.

Good that someone's giving him a needed kick in the ass, without it there's no impetus not to continue being a big slob & bully.

If Shaq was around 250-270, he'd be unstoppable, and would prolong his career. Sad thing, he's an idit.

They even had some article in M&F or some shit like that a few years ago, showing how the retard was working out. Would you believe he was actually doing BB curls and leg presses, fcukin bodybuilding training. ::)

The guy is extremely rich, yet won't hire a trainer with a brain to tell him to train for basketball. Ridiculous.

Doubt Fat Shaq has ever done a snatch in his whole life.

Tim Duncan would be eaten alive if Shaq ever smartened up.

But he won't.

Yes.

He's getting injured a lot, and having problems from the joints. IMO, he'd be better off if he stopped with his bodybuilding training that he showed off in that mag, slimmed down a lot.

Fat Shaq has a lot of muscle mass in the upper body. Which I believe is of little use when playing basketball.

That is a matter of opinion though of course.

Some people think it's just great to have big bulky guys on court. ::)

I agree he could lose some BF and slim down his physique, but he still needs upper body strength to muscle guys out of the post when he's down low.

He could change his training to focus on core strength and change his weightlifthing to more of a functional powerlifting scheme so as to maximize his strength at a lower bodyweight.

Think of the Olympic weightlifters who are strong, albeit at a lower weight.  They maximize their strength while staying compact.....

That's what Shaq should do.

That assumes cogent analytical ability. Currently Mr. O'neil adheres to the "Wazzup" training philosophy.

Weight training would be nice, but he's already stronger than most no matter what. He needs heavy cardio to get rid of the sloppiness.

Let's say he would get to a competitive bodyfat level, with the current muscle mass. He would *probably* be around 310-315 lbs then.

If he would drop all that bullshit training for mass he's doing, only focusing on explosive movements like the Olympic Lifts only, and train with a Track and Field coach. That would get him under 300 lbs within the first year, IMO.

^Concur.

If I was his guru, I'd put him on a basic Test/Tren/Winstrol cycle......

I'd aim to cut him up while making the mass he has more solid and dense.

That combined with the strength training would make him stronger, more explosive and sleeker, versatile.

He should have done this probably his 4th year or so.....when his body could still take the pounding.

It's probably too late for these recommendations.

I know almost nothing about steroids, what I know, is from reading on these boards.

This I "know" though, Tren and Test adds muscle, Winstrol too, to some extent, but is mainly used to cut.

So if I saw anyone recommend Shaq such a "cycle"... I would steer him the other direction.

Shaq has always been big, and I would seriously question the sanity of using any kind of drugs that would get him bigger, when what he need is to stay lean, alternatively, at this stage of his career, to lose mass.

Zachariah,

The point of the cycle combined with the Olympic training is to cut his bulk down to functional muscle.  The Tren would do this, and I would run it with Test at the very least....Fine, he can do without the Winstrol.  I'd have him cut down and dense, explosive.......that's what he needs.  It's not so much building muscle with Shaq, as he already has it, just refining it while keeping him in an anabolic state.

He needs to respond favorably to the training style, with the least amount of complications.  This is why I'd put him on a short cycle of Test/Tren.

Ah ok I see what you're saying. He would still be able to get smaller then?

I've had the impression that AAS would prevent users from losing muscle mass when on a hypo caloric diet.

It depends on how much cardio he's doing, but generally it would recomposition his body as a whole.  His weight wouldn't change too much, but his appearance and his functionality would.

'Roids are completely unecessary at this stage. If and when he's ever sufficiently desperate but i don't see it. Best thing for him would be an effective trainer, if he doesn't already have one.

Shaq's knees, and ligaments and joints overall, aren't gonna be able to handle him weighing above 270 lbs (and that is being generous IMO).

The stress on the knees is no different if it's a muscular 340 lbs or a lean 340 lbs.
